Random question... have you ever wondered what garbage bags are actually made of? 🤔
I never really thought about it until I started learning more about janitorial products.
Most garbage bags are made from a plastic called polyethylene. It starts as tiny plastic pellets that are melted and stretched into a thin film before being cut and sealed into bags.
What surprised me is that not all garbage bags are made from the same material.
Some bags are designed to be thin and economical for paper and lightweight waste.
Others are made to stretch and resist punctures, which makes them better for kitchen garbage, food waste, and heavier loads.
That's why two garbage bags that look almost identical can perform completely differently.
One might tear the moment a cereal box corner pokes through, while another handles a full kitchen bag without any problems.
I always used to think "thicker means stronger," but that's not necessarily true. The type of plastic matters just as much as the thickness.
Who knew garbage bags were actually a little bit of science? 😄
Did you know this, or am I the only one who spent years without thinking about what a garbage bag is made from?
