Wildlife Biologist / Avian Monitoring Specialist (Summer Term Position)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Compensation: $25.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
Joro Consultants Inc. is a Manitoba-based environmental consulting firm specializing in wildlife research, environmental assessments, ecological monitoring, and scientific studies throughout Manitoba and northern Canada. Our team works closely with industry, government agencies, Indigenous communities, and conservation organizations to deliver scientifically rigorous and practical environmental solutions.
We are currently seeking motivated and field-oriented professionals to join our growing team as a Wildlife Biologist / Avian Monitoring Specialist for a summer term position. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to wildlife research, environmental monitoring programs, and ecological assessments across diverse landscapes and remote regions.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will participate in wildlife monitoring, environmental assessments, and research initiatives, with a particular focus on avian surveys and monitoring programs. Projects may involve travel to remote locations, extended field assignments, and work in challenging outdoor environments while contributing to high-quality scientific studies.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable field experience while working alongside experienced wildlife professionals on projects throughout Manitoba and northern Canada.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Applicants with experience or demonstrated interest in the following areas are encouraged to apply:
Avian pre-construction nest sweep surveys
Bird identification by sight and sound
Breeding bird surveys and migratory bird monitoring
Avian point counts and standardized monitoring protocols
Wildlife inventories and ecological field studies
Terrestrial wildlife monitoring and habitat assessments
Environmental impact assessments and environmental monitoring programs
GPS, GIS, navigation, and field data collection
Working independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams
Remote field operations and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Education and Qualifications
Degree or diploma in Biology, Wildlife Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or a related discipline
Experience conducting avian surveys and wildlife monitoring is considered a strong asset
Strong observational, organizational, and communication skills
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Ability and willingness to travel and work in remote locations as required
