Hiring an Arborist? Here's What You Need to Know
Before hiring any company to perform tree work on your property, it's essential to ensure they meet professional and legal standards. Here's what you should be asking:
✅ Are they insured through WorkSafeBC?Always confirm the company has current WorkSafeBC coverage. You can request a clearance letter directly from them or print one yourself from the WorkSafeBC website. This protects you from liability in case of workplace accidents.
✅ Are their workers certified arborists?Ask if the crew is trained and certified to International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) standards. This ensures they follow best practices in tree care and safety.
✅ Are they qualified to perform danger tree assessments?Anyone performing tree risk assessments should hold credentials through ISA's Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) or be certified through the BC Ministry's Danger Tree Assessor Program.
✅ Working near power lines?Only Certified Utility Arborists are trained and authorized to work around energized lines. They should also be able to secure an Assurance of No Reclose Permit (ANRP) to safely work near the power system.
✅ Certified for tree falling? If trees larger than 6 inches in diameter and over 10 feet in height are being removed, the workers must be certified to fall trees under WorkSafeBC regulations.
✅ Do they have liability and property insurance?Ensure the company carries adequate liability insurance to protect your property and avoid costly damages or legal issues.

There’s a lot to consider when hiring a tree service.Choosing an uncertified or uninsured company can expose you to serious risks — including legal liability if someone is injured or killed on your property.
Do your due diligence. Hire certified, insured professionals.

Picture for attention.
I get a lot if enquiries for faller and chainsaw training, In particular from CAGC trainees who are having trouble finding tutors or trainers to complete their training.

How many CAGC trainees are there in BC who are looking to complete the CAGC faller training and are having trouble finding a tutor.

Thanks
