This is a recent driveway resurfacing. The original horseshoe driveway was overgrown and uneven but the base underneath it all was satisfactory material to build back up on. This is the key to a long lasting driveway.

You can make something look good at a surface level but without the appropriate material underneath the result will be a surface that will fail.

This is why we always take the extra steps or use the materials that may be needed to do it once and do it right, the first time, every time.

We had the opportunity recently to dig a well for a wonderful couple. This is a secondary garden use well that has produced a static level of 15 feet of water out of its 23.5 foot depth. Even though the water might never be consumed, we still have to follow the regulations for a dug well in the province. Here are some pictures of the process from top to bottom including the cement seal between the stone and fill. Take notice that there is no organic materials (grass, roots, topsoil) near the dig site and the finished grade is mounded around the crock to divert surface water away, this is paramount to ensuring clean, clear and safe to consume water.

A recently cleared piece of land that is now mow-able once grass starts growing. This previous pit was a minefield of abandoned bolder. Hidden by alders, it was unusable land. 2.5 days later and they will be able to mow and maintain this for the first time.

New driveway construction for future build.

This is the most cost effective way to construct a new road with all materials generated onsite. Taking what material is not suitable for road construction (large rocks, vegetation and organic soil) from the area where the road will be built, excavating alongside the new road, and taking suitable material for the road. Backfilling the excavation with the non suitable material to not leave unsightly and dangerous holes.

Unfortunately It’s not always an option to do this type of construction, however it’s certainly the preferred way to construct roads when possible to keep costs lower for the clients.

With winter closing in and more time on my hands, I’ll be posting some of the work completed over the course of the 2023 season.

These precast cement retaining block walls are probably the nicest way to hold back a slope or change the elevation of another area while keeping your existing grade, for example an entrance into a basement or along a driveway, where you want to hold back a slope or refrain from altering a much larger area to match. They are also great for controlling erosion in tidal areas (within legal boundaries, or with permits)

A little pond transformation completed last week that cleaned up very nice. Bottom of pond scraped to remove the grass, banks cleaned back and all fill was spread around to be able to mow and maintain the grass.
