Hi everyone, my name is Melanie and I am semi new to Alberta life. I moved from BC West coast in 2017 to live with my Fiance and my “Surprise Family”! I left my secure union job as a Recreation Therapist in BC, open to start my new life in Alberta. When I arrived here I hit the ground running earning a great job as a Director Of Recreation in a Seniors community and quickly realized that For- Profit health care does not foster the “Person- Centered” care philosophy I have learned is so important in vulnerable populations. Despite this, I was able to earn many accolades in the year and half I worked in this role, as well as meaningful relationships with residents and staff alike. One day, I discovered I was pregnant and reported this to my management team... less than a week later was Terminated “without cause”... Devastated- is the only word that can describe how I felt, being “exempt from Union” in my Manager roll meant I had no support to keep my job.

Well, knowing that I am about to be a new mom to the little girl who is coming into this world, and wanting to help my Fiance financially as best as possible, I knew something had to change and I needed to- Level Up! I grew up in Child-care with a single mom who struggled... that is not the life I want for my family. If you are like me and have a strong work ethic and want to take back control of your life and time- the opportunity I discovered will ring a bell for you too!
