Progress report on a white line disease resection. Mare came back from a lease out with some extra passengers that had taken up residence in both front feet. After several months, she is back barefoot with healthy hoof growth. (After photo was taken when nail holes grew out)
The importance of regular hoof maintenance and proper management makes all the difference.

Now is the time! Stock up on your go-to hoof hardeners and thrush products.
My favourites are Durasole (can be found at Professional Farrier Supply website), Venice Turpentine, Artimud (Hoofhealth Canada website) and Hoof Doctor Putty. Also never hurts to have a couple packs of Animalintex pads on hand, abscess season is upon us.
Healthy hooves=happy horse (and farrier 🤣)

Horse presented with coronary injury and and grade 4 lameness. Painful during palpation as section had quite a bit of independent movement.
Opted for a glue patch with drains for now just to stabilize the area while still allowing for treatment. Mare is on stall rest in deep bedding. Will reassess soon.

Thinking of the men, women AND horses that served and paid the ultimate price for our freedoms today. 'Sergeant Reckless' is one of my favourite stories. Have a read. Lest we forget!

Little experiment horse this summer.
Hind shoes weren't really an option due to being in a large mixed herd.
Appaloosa mare with poor conformation all around (shocking i know), particularly in hind end. Landed hard on medial side causing a sheared medial heel and a pinched, flared lateral side. This chronic issue resulted in a deep crack on both hinds that went up into the hairline. Went to a 3-4 week trim cycle for this mare and seeing some great progress.
Goal was to change the ground force reaction by relaxing the medial heels while building mass and width on the medial side of her hoof. Previously it would be jammed up and start to curl under itself. She would also develop a long lateral toe which only served to make the crack worse and cause an imbalance landing, loading and breakover phase. By making a change to how the medial side interacts with ground, I was able to gain some ground so to speak on the lateral flare- encouraging straighter, healthier growth.
Still have a few more months before this is completely grown out but lesson being don't be afraid to go to a 3 or 4 week cycle to stay ahead of distortion, those minor adjustments done frequently can make all the difference. Yes it can be more costly for you as the client but in the long run the horse will have more years of comfort.

To my clients

Due to a significant rise in operational and supply costs, a price increase on all services can be expected beginning Oct 1st, 2025.

This price increase isn't giving me a raise, it's to keep a balance with my operating cost to a number that keeps me staying afloat.

If there are any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at 519 755 2813.

Thank you for your continued business and trust in me as your farrier.
