We would like to sincerely thank our community for the kind words and support following yesterday’s bush fire along Eagle Bay Road. Your encouragement means a great deal to our firefighters.
We would also like to recognize the community members who helped engage the fire in its early stages, as well as our neighbouring fire departments who responded and provided assistance. We are fortunate to have such a strong network of community members and emergency responders willing to step up when needed.
Our goal is always to hit these fires hard and fast while they are still small. Yesterday’s response was a great example of how important early action and a coordinated response can be.
We also want to remind everyone that staying clear of an active incident is one of the best ways you can help. Please give firefighters, fire trucks and other emergency responders the room they need to safely access the fire and operate effectively. Keeping roads and access points clear allows us to get in faster and do what we do best—protect our community.
You can also do your part by FireSmarting your property. Reducing combustible materials around your home and property can give your local fire department a much better fighting chance when conditions are severe and fires are spreading quickly.
Small fires can become big fires very quickly.
