Today (April 22nd) marks the 45th anniversary of the One Love Peace Concert, an event organized by Bob and the neighborhood strongmen of Kingston—helping to solidify a truce reached between the rivaling political parties of Jamaica amid violence that took place across the island in the mid ‘70s.

In an improvised moment of Inity during “Jamming”, Bob called on the political leaders of each party to come on stage and shake hands, to “show the people that you love ‘em right, show the people that we gonna unite!” It was an historic moment for the nation, and led to a period of peace across Jamaica. Two months later while on tour in New York City, Bob would be awarded the United Nations Peace Medal of the Third World for his efforts at the concert and beyond.
