City Council Excited to Add to Summerside Lobster Carnival Lineup
The Amateur Country Music Singing Competition will be back in the lineup of the 66th Summerside Lobster Carnival this July, after a twenty-two year hiatus. The competition was a popular Carnival event from 1985 through to 2000.
Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart felt 2022 was the year to bring the competition back in celebration of the Carnival’s full return following the COVID pandemic. Warren Ellis of Summerside Chrysler Dodge was in full agreement and put $3,000.00 on the table to be awarded as the top prize. Kool Breeze Farms has sponsored a second place prize of $1,000.00, with Anderson Automotive sponsoring the third place prize of $500.00.
Councillor Barb Ramsay is chairing a Council committee made up of Mayor Stewart, Councillor Bruce MacDougall, and Councillor Cory Snow to oversee bringing the competition to the stage of the Veterans Convention Centre on July 5 and 6. Cameron Productions is the talent coordinator for the event. The Chad Matthews Band will back the competing singers during the competition.
Those wishing to participate in the competition have until June 1st to enter at https://www.summersidelobstercarnival.website/ Twenty will be selected and notified by June 8th. On the first evening of the competition, July 5, ten will be selected to advance to the final round on the evening of July 6th.
