A Wolfe Island legacy continues!

For more than 140 years, Fargo’s General Store has been an important part of the Wolfe Island community. When Steve Fargo decided to retire, it was important to him that the island continue to have a general store. With that in mind, Steve reached out to community supporters, Kate Slagle and James Bambury to see if they would be interested in purchasing the business. The Board of Frontenac Business Services recognized how important a general store is to the community and was pleased to support Kate and James with financial assistance through their Transition Program. Now rebranded as Jean and Aggie’s General Store, the business continues to grow and evolve. Kate and James have added new product lines, including an ice cream shoppe and island merchandise, and are developing plans for a commercial kitchen space that will produce homemade items for the store, supply catering for Island events and provide rental space for other food producers.

We are proud to support local business succession and help important community businesses continue to serve residents for generations to come.
