🇨🇦 Express Entry Draw Update – French-Language Proficiency

IRCC has just held another large French-language Express Entry draw, continuing its strong focus on francophone immigration in 2026.

📅 Date: May 28, 2026
📊 CRS score of lowest-ranked candidate invited: 409
📩 Invitations issued: 4,500

This marks:
✔️ The 30th Express Entry draw of 2026
✔️ The fourth Express Entry draw in May alone

French-language draws continue to stand out this year, with significantly lower CRS cut-offs compared to many other draw types.

📈 In 2026 so far, IRCC has issued 79,841 ITAs through Express Entry.

Current draw trends continue to show a strong focus on:
🔹 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates
🔹 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates
🔹 French-speaking applicants

For many candidates, improving French-language ability may now be one of the most realistic ways to increase competitiveness under Express Entry.

💬 If you are exploring Express Entry options or wondering whether French-language pathways could help your profile, book a consultation with Pivot North Immigration to discuss your strategy.

💻 Canada Clarifies Rules for Digital Nomads 🇨🇦

IRCC has updated its internal guidance regarding “digital nomads” — people who work remotely for foreign employers while staying in Canada as visitors.

One important clarification:
📌 Canada does NOT currently have a dedicated “digital nomad visa.”

Under existing rules, eligible foreign nationals may stay in Canada as visitors for up to 6 months while working remotely for:
✔️ A foreign employer
✔️ Or foreign clients if self-employed

According to IRCC guidance, this does NOT count as entering the Canadian labour market.

However, digital nomads must still meet all regular visitor requirements, including showing that they:

✔️ Will not work for a Canadian employer
✔️ Have enough financial support
✔️ Will leave Canada at the end of their authorized stay

IRCC guidance also confirms that applicants may be asked to provide evidence such as:
📄 Foreign employment contracts
📄 Pay stubs
📄 Foreign tax documents
📄 Business registrations
📄 Bank statements

⚠️ Important:
If someone wants to start working for a Canadian employer while in Canada, they generally need a work permit before beginning that work.

Family members are also not automatically authorized to work or study in Canada and would need their own appropriate status or permits.

As remote work becomes more common globally, many people assume Canada offers an open “digital nomad visa” program. In reality, these situations are still assessed under regular visitor rules, and border officers retain discretion when assessing entry.

📩 If you are considering staying in Canada while working remotely, it’s important to properly assess your situation and documentation before travelling.

🚨 Canada Expands eTA Eligibility to Indonesia & Malaysia

Canada has partially lifted visa requirements for certain travellers from Indonesia and Malaysia under the Electronic Travel Authorization Expansion (eTA-X) program.

📅 Effective May 26, 2026, eligible citizens from these countries may now be able to travel to Canada with an eTA instead of applying for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) — but only in specific situations.

✅ To qualify for an eTA under this program, travellers must:
✈️ Travel to Canada by air, AND
✔️ Have held a Canadian TRV in the last 10 years
OR
✔️ Currently hold a valid U.S. nonimmigrant visa (NIV)

📌 Important: Indonesia and Malaysia are still considered visa-required countries overall. This is not a full visa exemption.

This change continues Canada’s gradual expansion of the eTA-X program, which aims to simplify travel for certain low-risk travellers with previous Canadian or U.S. immigration history.

⚠️ However, travellers who do not meet these requirements will still need to apply for a regular visitor visa before travelling to Canada.

If you’re unsure whether you qualify for an eTA or TRV, it’s important to assess your eligibility carefully before making travel plans.

🚨 Canada Introducing Temporary Ebola-Related Border Measures 🚨

The Government of Canada has announced temporary immigration and border measures in response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and increasing risks in Uganda and South Sudan.

Effective May 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM EDT, Canada intends to suspend certain immigration documents for residents of:
📍 Democratic Republic of the Congo
📍 Uganda
📍 South Sudan

This includes:
❌ Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs)
❌ eTAs
❌ Permanent Resident visas

Even previously approved documents may be temporarily suspended, meaning affected individuals may not be able to travel to Canada during this period. Canada also intends to pause processing decisions on applications from residents of these countries for the next 90 days.

Additionally, beginning May 30, 2026, travellers who have been in these countries within the previous 21 days may be subject to mandatory quarantine measures under the Quarantine Act.

📌 Important clarification:
Individuals already inside Canada are not impacted by these measures and may continue to remain in Canada under their current status conditions.

The government states these measures are precautionary, and the overall risk to people in Canada remains low.

As always, border and travel measures can change quickly, so travellers should monitor official government updates closely before making travel plans.

🚨 Important PGWP Update from IRCC 🚨

After months of widespread PGWP refusals and long reconsideration wait times, IRCC has finally updated the Post-Graduation Work Permit application portal.

Applicants will now see a dedicated section to upload “Proof of Language Proficiency” when submitting a PGWP application. 🇨🇦

While the portal currently labels this section as “optional,” language test results are still a mandatory eligibility requirement under the new PGWP rules.

📌 What applicants should know:
✔️ Upload your IELTS, CELPIP, TEF or approved language test results proactively
✔️ Do not assume the language section is truly optional
✔️ Make sure your scores meet the required CLB level for your program and credential

This is a very welcome and overdue improvement by IRCC. A clearer application process should help reduce unnecessary refusals caused by missing or unclear language documentation — something many international graduates have faced over the past year.

If you’re preparing a PGWP application, make sure your documents are complete before submitting. Small omissions can still lead to refusal.

🚨 Express Entry Draw – Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

IRCC has held another Express Entry draw targeting Provincial Nominee Program candidates.

📅 Date: May 25, 2026
📊 CRS score of lowest-ranked candidate invited: 805
📩 Invitations issued: 334

Today’s draw is the 28th Express Entry draw of 2026 and only the second draw held in May.

Express Entry draws in 2026 continue to heavily prioritize candidates already in Canada — particularly those with provincial nominations and Canadian work experience.

📈 So far this year, IRCC has issued 72,341 Invitations to Apply (ITAs).

A provincial nomination remains one of the strongest ways to increase your CRS score and improve your chances of receiving an ITA.

🚨 Express Entry Draw Update – Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

IRCC has conducted another Express Entry draw, inviting candidates with provincial nominations to apply for permanent residence.

📅 Date: May 11, 2026
📩 Invitations Issued: 380
📊 CRS Cut-Off Score: 798

Candidates who receive a provincial nomination are awarded an additional 600 CRS points. This means even applicants with CRS scores in the low 200s can receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) once nominated by a province.

📈 Express Entry Trends in 2026

Express Entry draws this year have continued to focus primarily on:
✔️ Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates
✔️ Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates
✔️ French-language proficiency candidates
✔️ Priority occupation categories

📌 So far in 2026, IRCC has issued 72,007 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through Express Entry.

🎯 A provincial nomination can significantly improve your chances of receiving an invitation, especially if your CRS score is not currently competitive for federal draws.

If you’re wondering whether you may qualify for a provincial nominee program, it is important to assess your profile strategically, as each province has its own criteria and priorities.

🚨 IRCC Will Begin Tracking Exit Data for Temporary Residents 🚨

A major shift is coming to Canada’s immigration system.

For the first time, the federal government is launching a pilot program to track whether temporary residents — including international students, workers, and other visa holders — actually leave Canada after their permits expire.

📌 Key highlights from the announcement:

• IRCC will now record whether temporary residents are in Canada or have exited the country
• The system is being developed jointly with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
• Initial rollout begins this month with a new “in-country / out-of-country” indicator
• The goal is to address long-standing gaps in tracking temporary resident compliance
• This change follows concerns raised about study permit non-compliance and immigration system integrity
• Entry-exit data may also improve Canada’s ability to measure migration and identify undocumented populations

For years, economists and audits have pointed out a major issue: Canada often assumes temporary residents leave when their permits expire — but the actual data has been incomplete.

This new system is designed to close that gap.

📊 Why it matters:
This could significantly impact future immigration policy, enforcement, and program integrity — especially for international students and temporary foreign workers.

👉 If you’re in Canada on a temporary status or planning your pathway to PR, it’s more important than ever to understand how compliance and eligibility are being assessed.

🚨 TR to PR Update – Let’s clear up the confusion

There is NO new TR to PR program. ❌

Over the past few months, social media has been filled with speculation, leaks, and even misleading “announcements” suggesting a new pathway for temporary residents. Unfortunately, this created a lot of confusion — and in some cases, unrealistic expectations.

The “In-Canada Workers Initiative” is not a new pathway or intake — it is a targeted measure to accelerate processing for certain workers who:

✔️ Already applied for PR
✔️ Are in existing immigration streams (PNP, AIP, Caregiver, Agri-Food, etc.)
✔️ Have been living and working in smaller communities for 2+ years

👉 It is not open to new applicants and does not create a new eligibility route.

In short: this is about faster processing of existing files, not a new opportunity to apply.

📩 If you’re unsure how this impacts your situation or current application, it’s worth reviewing your pathway strategically rather than relying on online speculation.

🇨🇦 Express Entry Draw – French-Language Proficiency

📅 Date: April 29, 2026
⏰ Time: 11:02:27 UTC
📊 CRS of lowest-ranked invited candidate: 400
🎯 Number of invitations issued: 4,000

Today’s draw marks the fifth French-language proficiency draw of 2026, and the twenty-sixth Express Entry selection of the year overall.

Despite a relatively lower frequency of French-category draws this year, the larger invitation sizes continue to make a significant impact. So far in 2026, French-language candidates have received 26,000 ITAs, making it the second-largest category under Express Entry, behind only the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

📈 2026 Express Entry overview so far:
✔️ Total ITAs issued: 71,627
✔️ Strong focus on in-Canada candidates
✔️ French-language proficiency remains a key targeted category

📌 What we’re seeing this year is a clear pattern:
IRCC continues to prioritize candidates already in Canada, particularly those with Canadian work experience and provincial nominations. At the same time, French-language proficiency remains a consistent pathway with strong invitation volumes.

💡 For French-speaking candidates, this category continues to represent a major opportunity within Express Entry — even with fewer draws, the high ITA numbers keep it highly competitive and impactful.
