For generations, NunatuKavut Inuit have lived throughout south and central Labrador, building deep connections to the land, waters and ice that continue today.
Our history is one of resilience, adaptation and stewardship. From traditional harvesting practices and travel routes to family connections rooted in community, Inuit culture has always been tied to the environment around us.
As we begin National Indigenous History Month, we honour the generations who came before us and the knowledge they passed down that continues to shape NunatuKavut today.
This month is also an opportunity to reflect on the significance of the British-Inuit Treaty of 1765, a historic agreement that remains an important part of our story.
