At our Long Harbour operations, the maintenance team is showing how employee-led improvements can strengthen operational performance.

By rethinking shutdown planning and ex*****on, the team reduced total planned maintenance shutdown time from 61 days in 2023 to just nine days in 2026. This gives the operation more time for production while keeping safety at the forefront of how work gets done.

That same mindset is driving improvements in day-to-day maintenance. Through the Asset Monitoring Centre, teams use data and condition monitoring to identify potential equipment issues earlier, enabling planned interventions before failures occur. This proactive approach, in conjunction with a world-class Lubrication Management Program and construction of a new state-of-the-art maintenance workshop, has helped improve reliability and reduced the need for more costly maintenance.

The team has also introduced new ways of working, including more intensive long-term planning, successful overhauls of critical equipment, the reduction of preventative maintenance to the minimum required and strengthened collaboration across the operation, helping ensure equipment performs reliably and efficiently.

These improvements reflect the expertise, ownership and commitment of our people, helping to build a more reliable and resilient operation. 👏

At Vale Base Metals, our operations are connected through a vertically integrated value chain – and it all starts in the ground.

Voisey's Bay is home to one of Canada's leading mining operations and includes both surface and underground mining. ⛏

Nickel-copper sulphide orebodies, like the one found at Voisey’s Bay, produce Class 1 nickel, electrolytic cobalt, and copper concentrate. The ore is mined at Voisey’s Bay, processed into a concentrate, and shipped to Long Harbour for the next stage of refining. 🏭

On Saturday, October 10, we are looking forward to welcoming 160 kids to the start line!

Thanks to our partner Newfoundland & Labrador Operations - Vale Base Metals , we are once again able to host the 1km and 3km kid's race completely FREE! Each child will receive a t-shirt, official race medal, and an official race time.

The TRC encourages runners of all endurance levels, paces, distances and running experience to run together in an encouraging and supportive environment, and we have a very special place in our hearts for children and youth.

The VBM Long Harbour Operations team was proud to host a National Seniors Day celebration for residents of Long Harbour-Mount Arlington Heights last week. 💙

The afternoon brought people together for refreshments, music, games, and great conversation while recognizing the seniors who have helped shape the community we operate in.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

Throughout VBM's Canadian operations, employees are taking time to learn, reflect and engage in meaningful conversations with Indigenous Peoples and communities.

Here in Newfoundland & Labrador, employees are sharing personal reflections and commitments, and the Voisey's Bay team will have a special meal featuring traditional Indigenous foods and a screening of "We Were Children" - a documentary about Canada's residential schools.

Creating opportunities to learn directly from Indigenous voices is an important part of reconciliation. In recognition of the day, Indigenous artist, activist and educator Eddy Robinson spoke with employees throughout Canada during a livestream discussion on truth, reconciliation and the path forward.

Learning does not begin and end on September 30. Building lasting, respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples requires ongoing listening, learning and action.

We remain committed to continuing this learning journey alongside Indigenous communities.

We were proud to participate in the 2026 Placentia Bay Industrial Showcase, joining industry, business and community leaders from across the region to discuss opportunities for growth and collaboration. 🤝

Long Harbour Refinery Manager Felix de K**k shared how critical minerals produced in the province are helping to shape industries and technologies around the world. 🌎

His message was clear: The world needs critical minerals. Newfoundland and Labrador has them, and Vale Base Metals is proud to be part of that story. ⛏

This quarter marked Vale Base Metals’ sixth consecutive quarter of strong production results. We are particularly proud to highlight VBM Newfoundland and Labrador’s *record quarterly production* at Long Harbour! 🥳

Full Q2 highlights:
➡️ Copper production increased 6% year over year to 98.4 kt
➡️ Nickel production rose 4% year over year to 42 kt – supported by record quarterly production at Long Harbour!
➡️ Copper sales rose 10% year over year
➡️ Nickel sales rose 7% year over year at an average realized price of $18,061/tonne
