I wrote my first story when I was in the second grade, and I was hooked. There was something magical about breathing life into people and places, real or fictional. And that spark is what drives me to write for the travel industry today.

Travel is not just flights and hotels. The important part is the story behind the journey. It's that goosebump moment that makes someone say "oh, I NEED to visit this place." I help travel brands bring these stories to life, with words that transport people to a place they've never been, even if only for a moment.

What causes you to hit the unsubscribe button on an email?

Last Wednesday, a creator I like posted about a freebie that comes with signing up for their emails. I was interested in the offering, so I signed up. I got my confirmation email, and a follow-up email. Standard sales funnel stuff.

But then I got another. And another. I don't often check my email on weekends, and when I opened my inbox on Monday I was flooded. All told, between Wednesday and Monday, I had nine emails from this person. NINE.

This is my nightmare.

Think about how many email lists you're currently subscribed to, whether it's a clothing company or delivery service or individual creator. If they each emailed 1-2 times a day, how would you react?

I might just set fire to my phone.

One thing I can promise when you work with me is that we will never overwhelm your audience. We'll hit their inbox with the helpful content they need, and leave them looking forward to the next one. Not scrambling for the unsubscribe button.

What are you currently reading?

Last week, Karen Kilgariff from talked about the Third Wave Experiment⁠.

This bizarre demonstration came about when one history teacher's class had trouble accepting that German people went along with the actions of N***s. So over the course of a school week, Ron Jones implemented increasingly strict rules and exclusivity of his Third Wave group. The students' urge to conform not only gripped the class but spread like wildfire throughout the entire school.

When I told one of my friends, he immediately loaned me the book Belonging by Nora Krug. It's a graphic novel memoir that tells Krug's journey to learn about and reconcile with the role of N***sm and German identity in her life and her family.

Luckily, I've had some great weather to read outside and lighten the weight of some heavy content. Reading next to the creek in my yard with the sunshine on my face is a feeling of pure joy.

I don't do *side hustles*

BUT

I love that freelancing gives me the flexibility to pursue one of my big passions: snuggling all the adorable pets possible!

Since freelance writing lets me work from anywhere, I often work from the homes of people whose pets need watching. Or sometimes I work from home while they hang out at my place! The pug in my photo is Tater, one of the first pals I made after I started freelancing.

Wondering how to convert your readers into customers?

Try the AIDA formula!

• Attention - Catch your reader's attention and make them aware of your business or product
• Interest - Pique their curiosity and give them a reason to keep reading. You can do this through methods such as evoking empathy or building credibility
• Desire - Show your reader why they want what you're offering, using pain points or social proof
• Action - Give your reader a clear and concise next step to take

This month has been BANANAS!

After two years of avoiding it, C19 hit my house. And let me tell you, it hit me HARD. I'm begging you, get your shots and wear your masks. You don't want this garbage. Thankfully my partner and I have come through on the other side with our general health and taste buds in tact, although we're still consistently zapped of energy.

And maybe that's why I chose this bright and happy photo.

This is me in 2015. I had just lost my job due to major layoffs, but I was getting severance pay. My Nonno had just passed away, and one of the last things I said to him was a promise that I would visit his hometown in Italy. And the stars aligned in a way that within weeks of being laid off, I was boarding a plane for a month-long trip to Europe with my mother.

This was day three. We were in Paris for a long weekend, it was Mother's Day, and my mom wanted to visit the Eiffel Tower. On our way, we stopped at a bakery for some breakfast. And that's when my mom snapped this action shot of me, tired and happy, savouring a beautiful pain au chocolat.

This trip was an incredible experience for me, for so many reasons. It showed me what I truly want for myself. And when I came home after a month of exploring Paris, Italy, and Ireland, I started a career of working for myself as a freelance writer.
