This week, Sequence Bio was invited to participate in the American Society of Human Genetics Thought Leadership Film Series for their annual general meeting.

The ASHG is the world’s largest meeting in human genetics, and we are proud to have the opportunity to showcase Newfoundland and Labrador, celebrate the people that make our research possible, and explain our goal of discovering the true signals of disease to power life-changing medicines.

When Sourav Sarker arrived at Memorial University in December 2018, he was struck by the friendly nature of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

“Everyone is so welcoming. When I walk around my neighbourhood, I’m guaranteed to get a smile and a wave. And sometimes a smile makes all the difference to your day.”

As a Masters student in Computer Science, Sourav pursued his love of cloud and backend software engineering. Now, as a recent graduate - and Sequence Bio’s newest Cloud Developer - he’s using his skills, previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and his passion to give back to the province that welcomed him with open arms.

“Sequence Bio is doing work that puts the people of Newfoundland and Labrador first. I’ve always had a passion for developing tools that protect the privacy, safety and integrity of data. Now I have an opportunity to work with world-class technology and a group of experts that are committed to giving back the right way, every day.”
