Every strong organization starts with a clear foundation. This week, we are highlighting the importance of
strategic planning that moves beyond ideas and into practical direction. A strong strategy helps organizations
clarify priorities, align leadership, and make decisions with confidence. It also creates a roadmap that can
guide funding, partnerships, governance, and long-term growth. At Bayside Consulting, we believe strategy is
not just a document. It is a decision-making framework that helps organizations stay focused on what matters
most. When the foundation is strong, every next step becomes clearer.

Every organization faces obstacles, but the biggest challenge isn't always the most obvious one. Sometimes it's limited resources, sometimes it's changing priorities, and sometimes it's simply finding the time to step back and plan for the future. At Bayside Consulting, we've learned that identifying the right challenge is often the first step toward finding the right solution. What is the biggest challenge your organization is facing right now? We'd love to hear your perspective and learn from your experiences.

🚀 New Case Study | Indigenous-led Social Acquisition

When a rural medical clinic closed in Stephenville, the Mi'kmaw Cultural Foundation saw an opportunity to create something new for the community.

With support from CSCNL’s Social Enterprise Through Acquisition (SETA) program, the Foundation acquired the former clinic and is transforming it into a Mi’kmaq-led childcare centre and community hub.

This case study highlights the power of social acquisition, partnership, and Indigenous leadership to preserve community assets and strengthen rural communities.

One of the best parts of this work is getting to spend time with organizations that are doing such meaningful, community-rooted work across Atlantic Canada.

We recently wrapped up a strategic planning process with the Mi’kmaw Cultural Foundation, and hearing CEO Jeffrey Young reflect on the experience reminded us why this kind of work matters so much.

He spoke a lot about the importance of working with people who understand the realities of rural Newfoundland and Labrador, nonprofit organizations, and Indigenous-led community work, not just in theory, but in practice.

One thing that especially stayed with us was his reflection that the final strategy “is a document that you can actually use… not something that gets thrown on a shelf.”

It’s an important reminder that community organizations don’t need more reports that look impressive but never get touched again, but plans that feel practical, grounded, and connected to the real work happening every day.
We’re really grateful to the Mi’kmaw Cultural Foundation for trusting us to support this process and excited to continue watching the incredible work they’re building in community.
