A couple of years ago I had the privilege of meeting the gunny, standing in the line up I was excited to finally meet him, thinking it would be fast and a picture then I would be moved on for the next fan. The truth was he spent time with each person who stood in line. Lol he asked me what branch I served in, I told him I couldn’t get in cause I’m diabetic, but still had the opportunity to contract as a trainer because of my search and rescue background. I’ll never forget what he said to me next, “we need more young men like you, we need men who serve and put others in front of themselves, we need less snowflakes” then he smiled and winked at me lol. He them passed me his challenge coin in a hand shake. A true hero, and one of my idols.
