There’s no fast-forward button in a nursery. That tree you plant in your backyard might already have five, seven, or even ten years of growing behind it.

Long before we know which home, park, street, or community it will eventually become part of, our team is busy caring for it here at the nursery.
Planting. Pruning. Watering. Root pruning. Transplanting. Spacing. Monitoring. And a whole lot of patience.

Every tree that leaves our farm is the result of hundreds of small decisions made over several growing seasons - all to help it become the tree someone will eventually choose for their landscape.

That’s the funny thing about growing trees: the work we do today might not show its full impact for years. But we think they’re worth the wait. 💚

Think planting season is over? Don’t pack away those gardening gloves just yet!

September can be a great time to keep planting. Cooler days mean less heat stress for plants, while the soil is still warm enough for roots to continue establishing before winter.

And one of our favourite things about shopping for plants in fall? You get to see a completely different side of them.
Fall colour
Seed heads
Interesting bark
Fruit
Form and texture

It’s the perfect time to notice which plants keep your yard interesting long after the summer flowers have faded.

So, if there’s a tree, shrub, or perennial you didn’t get into the ground this spring, you haven’t necessarily missed your chance. Summer may be winding down, but planting season isn’t over yet!

Our Business Development Manager, Charlie Varze, is sharing a little about the connections and community behind Open Farm Days.

One of our favourite parts of opening Eagle Lake to the public is getting the chance to meet more of the people in our community — whether you’re a longtime customer, a fellow member of the agriculture or horticulture industry, an avid gardener, or someone visiting the farm for the very first time.

It’s a chance to ask questions, swap stories, learn from one another and get to know the people behind the businesses in your community.
