Today was a good day. When I first moved into the house the soil was so dry I actually put overland flood insurance on the house after the first rainfall. Three years later when I put a shovel in to the ground, I was hitting worms everytime.

Seed potato time. I had a box from harvest last year that has gone wild and a bag of new seed potatoes. The ones from last year's harvest don't look as amazing as they could as I am still trying to figure out a cold storage situation in my home. The other ones are seed potatoes I purchased. I like to cut them a day or two before I plant to dry out the cuts a bit. I will hopefully be putting these into the ground now with carrots and beans and some spinach to start. With food costs rising, I hope I can give you some pointers to grow successfully. Best wishes for the beginning of the season

This is my favorite part/ least favorite part of the season. Hardening off plants. My patience failed me in the first year. I didn't take enough time to do this and killed about 50% of my seedlings. For any new gardeners out there, this should be about a two week process. Hauling them in and out and exposing them a little bit longer everyday. From a shady spot to being in the sun. And the hardest part waiting until the chance of frost has passed...

This is definitely not a sponsored post but this morning I work up sore. Sore from a day of trying to get the yard caught up after a summer of neglect last year. I realized how grateful I am for things like my treats bags of beans and my second hand espresso machine that a friend won for me off our local bidding wars site and the smell of apple blossoms while walking in the frost of the morning and the neighbor who stopped by to help fix the rototiller and the fact that my body is getting strong again. Sometimes we don't know why something happens but there is always a lesson in it. #

To all the mothers out there, happy mothers day, from those of you loving your fur babies to the age of human you are raising. If the greenhouses were any indication, today was the start of the season. It was wonderful to wander, drink coffee and listen to the garden dreams. I hope they all come true. This seedling space has grown a little bit every year since we moved into our house. This year this space was big enough to start seeds for a few friends and next week I will be adding another round and starting the squash and cucumbers. This was a low cost set up as I checked our local marketplace postings on the regular and picked things up randomly. It makes me smile every time I pass it by.

So I took most of a year to heal after my big fall. Getting my hands back in the dirt and getting back in the kitchen is such a gift. This morning I was up early to start potting up some plants. Let's see what we can do with what we can grow this year. There's still time to get growing if you haven't started. Most plants will produce vegetables in 75 to 90 days🧡

Another one in the books for a lovely couple. Winnie the Pooh themed, as the gender is a surprise💛 Classic chocolate with vanilla bean buttercream and home made honey toffee sponge and miniature version gluten free vanilla with the same fillings. Baby cakes always make me smile.
