Something to think of…. Did you know that fuel going from $3 a gallon to $6 only changed the fuel cost for freight by $.60 a mile assuming the truck can average 5 mpg. Going to $9 a gallon will make fuel costs $1.80 a mile. Let’s say you can fill a truck with 42,000 lbs, every dollar that fuel rises it adds .476 cents per 1000 miles that product has wheels under it. Greed and fear will be the reasons why inflation will skyrocket. I’m so tired of hearing high fuel as a driving factor for raising prices 5-10 percent. With this business, I am holding prices back as I am making less on each product today than I have in the past 3-4 years. I’m hopeful things won’t last long but someday my hand will be forced. Sad reality is that products will be made cheaper to maintain margins vs fighting for fairness or raising prices. I have no problem with the mindset that things need to rise, but let’s be fair, and when inputs go down, I expect things to lower too, but we know that won’t happen. The cause is not warranted of the reaction we are having.
