SPE-1000 is referred to as a Model Code for electrical equipment that qualifies to undergo a field evaluation rather than the typical certification process for the Canadian market. A field evaluation is an efficient way to get an applicable product assessed and labeled, and therefore requires approval from a field evaluation inspector. CSA A277 is a technical standard which outlines the procedure for certification of prefabricated buildings, modules, and panels in Canada. Applicable buildings and/or modules that fall under CSA A277 include but are not limited to modular homes as well as portable industrial spaces (ie. accommodations that are constructed in a factory and away from the site of installation). As such, certification in accordance with the CSA A277 standard does not address buildings (or sections of buildings) which are not completed in factory settings prior to transportation.
