Down the Rabbit Hole. One of my favourites from last year. Everything I paint evokes memories. Trying to finish this was not easy. In fact i don’t know how I really managed to paint anything🤣 so this painting really was a trial of determination.

NEW PEER-REVIEWED NATURE STUDY: Being around dogs is linked to better 5-year survival in cancer patients. In a large study of ~55,000 people, those with dog contact had up to a 64% lower risk of death over 5 years compared to those without. Researchers believe this may be due to more daily activity, reduced stress, and even beneficial effects on the gut microbiome, though it’s important to note this shows a strong association, not direct cause.

How are you keeping ticks off your dog?

How are you keeping ticks off your dog?

For ticks, your dog is a beacon of heat and scent. Ticks don't find a host by sight; they follow a specific chemical trail that signals your dog as a meal.

Traditional pest control often relies on systemic pesticides: neurotoxins that wait for the bite to happen. These poisons aren't good for you or your dog. Nature offers a more strategic approach: sensory disruption.

Essential oils like cedar and geranium can help mask your dog's scent. These oils disrupt a tick's sensory receptors, essentially helping make your dog “invisible” or unattractive before they can hitch a ride and latch on. I love using a bandana charged with these oils on walks.

Environmental modulation is a safer choice for the long-term health of our pups. Focusing on a resilient canine helps deter pests and tick-borne diseases.

There are many all-natural remedies to deter ticks and help avoid Lyme and other co-infections. My much anticipated All Natural Tick Course is open. Here is more information.

Air is more than oxygen, it's a vital nutrient.

While we focus on high-quality diet and herbal potency to support your dog's (an your) terrain, we often overlook the most basic element: the movement of air. From a clinical perspective, stagnant air can mirror a stagnant internal environment.

When your dog pauses in a breeze, they aren’t just "smelling." They are processing a complex data stream that helps regulate their nervous system. This sensory grounding is essential for the nervous system loop. They can help oxygenate their blood through clean, moving air that supports cellular resilience and mental clarity.

Think of fresh air as an intervention. It shifts your dog from a state of sensory confinement to one of environmental engagement. It’s simple, it’s free, and it’s one of the most powerful tools we have for maintaining a balanced, resilient pup.

Next time you’re out, let them pause. Let the wind hit their face. It’s a vital reset for a more resilient dog plus they can check their pee-mails and messages.

For more protocols on supporting your dog’s natural terrain, check out my book, The Herbal Dog.
