If your boom, stick, or bucket cylinder fails, your entire site comes to a halt. We understand the frustration of choosing between an expensive new part and a more affordable used one. You need to save money, but you cannot risk a component that leaks or lacks precision.

As an excavator parts supplier that has spent decades handling these components, we suggest you look for a few specific signs of trouble:

⚠️ Check the rod and exterior for any wet spots or fluid leaks. For example, a tiny drip today can become a major blowout tomorrow when you are lifting a heavy load.
⚠️ Look closely for structural cracks or bending at the connection points.
⚠️ Watch for signs of corrosion or pitting on the metal surfaces that might eat away at your seals over time.
⚠️ Check the bushings and pins for excessive movement.

06/16/2026

For excavator owners and operators, finding metal shavings in your gear oil is a nightmare scenario. It is a clear warning of significant internal mechanical failure that can lead to catastrophic damage, expensive repairs, and project-killing downtime. Since the final drive is essential for machine mobility, ignoring these signs can result in your excavator coming to a complete standstill.

To protect your equipment, follow these expert inspection tips:

✅ Monitor Gear Oil Regularly: Change your final drive gear oil every 1,000 to 2,000 hours and carefully inspect the drained fluid for any grit or metal shavings.
✅ Check Internal Gears: Evaluate the condition of gear stages and bearings for signs of pitting, cracking, or bent teeth.
✅ Inspect Seals: Ensure seals are intact; failing seals allow contaminants in and fluids out, which accelerates component wear.
✅ Maintain Fluid Levels: Proper oil levels are vital, as low levels cause faster wear of internal bearings and gears.
If you identify shavings, Langley Excavator Parts provides urgent access to high-quality replacement parts to help you avoid financial losses. We offer the right new OEM, rebuilt, and refurbished components for Hitachi, John Deere, Caterpillar, Volvo, and Link-Belt excavators. For excavator operators, summer heat is more than an inconvenience, it is a direct threat to your machine's "heart." Overheating can "cook" hydraulic oil, damaging sensitive seal compounds and tarnishing the working surfaces of cylinders and pistons. These failures lead to catastrophic downtime, missed deadlines, and devastating financial losses.

Overheating is often caused by low fluid levels, clogged cooling systems, or restricted airflow. To prevent this:

✅ Maintain optimal airflow by regularly cleaning radiators and oil coolers; pressure washing deeply embedded dirt from fins, directing water from the engine side out, is highly effective.
✅ Ensure belly pan vents are clear of debris and keep all fluid reservoirs full to limit air entry.
✅ Use high-quality, heat-resistant grease that maintains its adhesion and lubrication properties even as temperatures rise.

If the summer heat leads to a breakdown, Langley Excavator Parts provides urgent access to the components you need to get back to work quickly. We offer new, rebuilt, and refurbished factory replacement parts for Hitachi, John Deere, Caterpillar, Volvo, and Link-Belt excavators. Every part undergoes a rigorous pre-delivery inspection to ensure unbeatable reliability.

For excavator operators, a failing swing motor is more than a technical glitch; it is a safety hazard that stalls production and compromises turning force. Weak or jerky rotation leads to frustrating project delays and significant financial losses. Identifying issues early is the only way to avoid catastrophic equipment failure.

To diagnose a failing motor:

1⃣ Start with a visual check for hydraulic leaks around the swing area and hoses.
2⃣ Listen for unusual banging, knocking, or squealing, which often signals internal cavitation or air in the system.
3⃣ Monitor your operating temperature closely; if fluid heat exceeds 82°C (180°F), internal seals and pistons are likely being damaged.
4⃣ Rotate the housing to check for unnecessary play or movement, as a worn slew ring can place a damaging load on your motor.

When components wear out, Langley Excavator Parts provides urgent access to new OEM, rebuilt, and refurbished replacement parts to minimize downtime. We offer factory-standard components for Hitachi, John Deere, Caterpillar, Volvo, and Link-Belt excavators. Each part undergoes a rigorous pre-delivery inspection to ensure reliable performance on your job site.

For excavator owners, improper track tension is a silent project-killer. Whether it’s loose tracks causing instability and rocking or tight tracks draining your engine's power, these issues directly impact your final drive's performance, leading to unforeseen downtime and costly repairs.

When tracks are too tight, they exert extreme pressure on internal bearings and increase friction, which significantly weakens the final drive, especially when traveling on slopes or carrying heavy loads. Additionally, because the final drive has to work harder to overcome the friction, it significantly increases fuel consumption. Conversely, loose tracks can slip off or accelerate wear on sprockets and pins.

To protect your final drive, perform daily monitoring of track tension and clean out debris after every shift to prevent mud buildup from increasing tension. Regularly checking final drive fluid levels and seals is also vital to prevent internal damage to gears.

If your excavator requires new, rebuilt, or refurbished final drives or undercarriage parts, Langley Excavator Parts provides urgent access to high-quality components to help you avoid financial losses. We offer the right factory replacement parts for Hitachi, John Deere, Caterpillar, Volvo, and Link-Belt excavators, ensuring your machine stays on-track.

05/05/2026

For excavator owners and operators in British Columbia and across Canada, failing Rotec bearings (slew rings) are a major concern. These components are incredibly expensive to replace, and a malfunction halts your machine’s rotation, leading to devastating financial losses and project downtime.

To prevent premature failure, you must prioritize a proactive maintenance schedule. First, ensure frequent lubrication using heavy-duty, extreme-pressure grease. It is vital to purge old, contaminated grease by rotating the housing while greasing until new lubricant visibly appears. Additionally, check bolt torque regularly to prevent loosening from vibration or "bolt creep," and visually inspect seals daily to keep out damaging debris and moisture.

If your equipment requires replacement parts, Langley Excavator Parts provides urgent access to get you back to work as quickly as possible. As Canada’s leader for factory replacement parts, we offer high-quality solutions for Hitachi, John Deere, Caterpillar, Volvo, and Link-Belt excavators.
