911 call takers in B.C. are preparing to vote on possible strike action after months of failed contract negotiations.

Workers say the system is already under serious pressure, with staffing shortages, rising call volumes, and burnout becoming a daily reality. In 2025 alone, tens of thousands of emergency calls didn’t meet response time targets, with some taking minutes to be answered.

They handle over 2 million calls every year, often dealing with life-or-death situations, and say the current conditions aren’t sustainable.

While 911 is considered an essential service and won’t fully shut down, any job action could still impact response times.

The cities are home to the most allergenic trees in the country, as well as being close to the coast with mild temperatures, which "pollen loves."

The numbers are rising… and so are the tents 🇨🇦

Across Canada, nearly 60000 people are experiencing homelessness on any given night, and the situation is getting worse. Since 2018, the number of people living in unsheltered conditions has surged by 303 percent, with encampments becoming a more common sight in cities across the country.

This is not just about population growth. It reflects a deeper shift. The share of people living without shelter has doubled, rising from 14 percent to 28 percent in just 6 years. More people are now living outside instead of in shelters, making this the fastest growing part of the crisis.

The main drivers remain clear. Housing is becoming harder to afford, and incomes are not keeping up. As a result, more Canadians are being pushed into situations where stable housing is out of reach.

This is no longer a hidden issue. It is visible in parks, streets, and communities across the country.

A pause on nursing despite a province-wide shortage of nurses. 🏥

In a move that has shocked students and health advocates, VCC rejected all applicants for its fall 2026 intake. The college cites budgetary constraints caused by a drop in international student enrollment following federal permit caps. B.C.

Nurses’ Union president Adriane Gear called the decision "very concerning," noting that B.C. already has thousands of nursing vacancies. While the Ministry of Health is trying to implement new nurse-to-patient ratios to ensure safe care, Gear warns that pausing training programs makes reaching those staffing goals nearly impossible.

The body of this Unidentified man was found on April 12, 2025 in Surrey, British Columbia, due to toxicity from an unregulated substance. He appears to be in his 40s, has brown eyes and short brown hair, and has a beard. He had very poor dental hygiene and several distinctive tattoos (See pinned comment)...💔
