The search for Kristina Ward continues nine years after she went missing

It has been nine years since Kristina Ward disappeared. She was reported missing on September 25, 2017.

Kristina was last seen on surveillance video at 144th Street and 104th Avenue in Surrey on September 27, 2017. She is described as 5’ 5”, 130 lbs with curly brown hair and brown eyes.

“Kristina matters. We, the family, need closure and to bring our daughter home,” said Art Ward, Kristina’s father. “Hope will always remain, but the silence is the unspoken pain we live with every day.”

On September 24, 2026, Kristina’s parents, family and friends will walk up 104th Avenue from 144th Street to 140th Street to keep her memory alive and generate information.

“We continue to search for Kristina and encourage anyone who has information about her to reach out to Langley RCMP or Crime Stoppers,” said Sergeant Zynal Sharoom, Media Relations Officer, Langley RCMP. “Even the smallest piece of information could be helpful to investigators.”

911 call takers in B.C. are preparing to vote on possible strike action after months of failed contract negotiations.

Workers say the system is already under serious pressure, with staffing shortages, rising call volumes, and burnout becoming a daily reality. In 2025 alone, tens of thousands of emergency calls didn’t meet response time targets, with some taking minutes to be answered.

They handle over 2 million calls every year, often dealing with life-or-death situations, and say the current conditions aren’t sustainable.

While 911 is considered an essential service and won’t fully shut down, any job action could still impact response times.

Across Canada, nearly 60000 people are experiencing homelessness on any given night, and the situation is getting worse. Since 2018, the number of people living in unsheltered conditions has surged by 303 percent, with encampments becoming a more common sight in cities across the country.

This is not just about population growth. It reflects a deeper shift. The share of people living without shelter has doubled, rising from 14 percent to 28 percent in just 6 years. More people are now living outside instead of in shelters, making this the fastest growing part of the crisis.

The main drivers remain clear. Housing is becoming harder to afford, and incomes are not keeping up. As a result, more Canadians are being pushed into situations where stable housing is out of reach.

This is no longer a hidden issue. It is visible in parks, streets, and communities across the country.

A pause on nursing despite a province-wide shortage of nurses. 🏥

In a move that has shocked students and health advocates, VCC rejected all applicants for its fall 2026 intake. The college cites budgetary constraints caused by a drop in international student enrollment following federal permit caps. B.C.

Nurses’ Union president Adriane Gear called the decision "very concerning," noting that B.C. already has thousands of nursing vacancies. While the Ministry of Health is trying to implement new nurse-to-patient ratios to ensure safe care, Gear warns that pausing training programs makes reaching those staffing goals nearly impossible.
