Summerland is a very special place to us.
As a winery in the Okanagan, we feel incredibly connected to the people, families, businesses, and wineries that make this community so special. Our hearts are with everyone who has been impacted by the fires, and we’re thinking especially of our friends and neighbours in Summerland.
We are incredibly grateful to the firefighters, first responders, emergency crews, volunteers, and everyone working tirelessly to protect the community.
As the days and weeks ahead unfold, one of the best ways we can support Summerland is by continuing to support local. Pick up a Summerland wine or cider the next time you’re at the liquor store. Order a Summerland wine at your favourite restaurant, visit a local business, join a wine club, or donate if you’re able. Every little bit helps.
There are also organizations providing direct support to those affected:
SOS Wildfire Response Fund
The Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen has established a wildfire response fund to support people affected by the Summerland wildfire. https://www.cfso.net/
Mamas for Mamas
Mamas for Mamas is providing immediate practical support to displaced families, including groceries, clothing, diapers, formula, hygiene products, hygiene essentials, and more. https://www.mamasformamas.org/
And remember, helping doesn’t always require money.
Check in on someone who has been evacuated. Drop off a meal. Help with a pet. Share resources. Offer a hand, or if you can, a place to stay.
This is what community is all about.
