Last week, the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade team was in Fort St. John for the BC Chamber of Commerce AGM and Conference, represented by CEO Joslyn Young, Policy & Media Advisor Aman Parmar, and Board Chair Rory Morgan.

At the conference, all three policy resolutions brought forward by SWRBOT, including one developed alongside the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce and Delta Chamber of Commerce, were adopted by the BC Chamber membership.

Our adopted policies are:
✅ Building a Circular Economy for EV Batteries in British Columbia
✅ Building Consistent RCMP Engagement Structures to Support Safer Communities and Stronger Economies
✅ Strengthening eligibility parameters for British Columbia’s 27-week unpaid illness or injury leave and reviewing the cumulative impacts of recent Employment Standards Act changes on employers

These policy adoptions reflect the practical priorities businesses are raising across British Columbia, from economic competitiveness and workforce sustainability to public safety and community resilience.

While in Fort St. John, the team also had the opportunity to visit the John Horgan Dam and Generating Station, gaining a firsthand look at one of British Columbia’s major infrastructure projects and its role in supporting long-term energy capacity, economic growth, and regional development.

It was great to be among so many chamber network colleagues, and to catch up with Ravi Kahlon, BC's Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth.
