We are so excited to have Sumayya Mullassery & Mahesh Prabhu presenting as our MCs this year at the Multiculturalism Day celebration on June 27th at Open Hearth Amphitheatre! 🙌

SUMAYYA MULLASSERY

Sumayya Mullassery is originally from India and has proudly called Cape Breton home for the past three years. She currently serves as the Connector Program Coordinator with the Cape Breton Partnership, where she supports youth, newcomers, and recent graduates in building meaningful connections and accessing opportunities across the region.
Beyond her professional role, Sumayya is an active community volunteer and serves on the boards of L’Arche Cape Breton and the Rackets & Paddle Association of Cape Breton. She is passionate about bringing people together, strengthening community connections, and creating welcoming spaces where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

MAHESH PRABHU

Mahesh Prabhu is a hospitality professional, community advocate, and passionate storyteller whose journey has taken him across six countries before proudly calling Unama'ki–Cape Breton, Canada, home. In early 2022, Mahesh and his family settled on the island, embracing its people, culture, and vibrant community.

Currently serving as the Food and Beverage Manager at the Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront, Mahesh brings decades of international experience in luxury hospitality, culinary arts, and guest service. Beyond his professional role, he is an active member of the local arts community as a board member of HAT Theatre and an enthusiastic performer who enjoys bringing stories to life on stage. Since 2024, Mahesh has served on the Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership’s Immigrant Advisory Table, supporting newcomers and fostering inclusive communities. He also volunteers his time with the Multicultural Association, reflecting his commitment to helping others feel at home in Cape Breton.
Whether in hospitality, theatre, or community service, Mahesh is known for building meaningful connections, celebrating cultural diversity, and making the most of Cape Breton’s beautiful summer season.

We’re excited to share that we were featured on Eastlink Community TV – Season 2, Episode 6: Cape Breton Influencers! 🎉 In this episode, we talk about our journey, our intention to connect communities, celebrate diverse cultures, and truly be a bridge where everyone can share, learn, grow, and belong together. From networking events and community partnerships to cultural celebrations, we’re humbled by how many newcomers and long-time Cape Bretoners we’ve connected with and we’re just getting started!

And we were featured alongside amazing local landmark, the historic The Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay! ❤️

Savoy Theatre is a century-old Victorian-style performing arts venue that’s been bringing people together through theatre, music, dance, and cultural celebrations since 1927. With a beautiful auditorium and space for performances and community events, Savoy has welcomed local, national, and international talent and continues to be a cultural heartbeat of Cape Breton’s arts scene.

From musicals and concerts to theatrical experiences and community gatherings, Savoy plays a huge role in enriching the cultural life here on the island. It’s such an inspiring place, and we’re grateful to have shared the spotlight with them in this episode.
