Last Saturday, we stopped by the Fossil Museum and had a great surprise — a friendly CBU geography student Kole offered to give us a personal tour!

He showed us a rock with visible layers and said,
“Each one represents a year on Earth.”

We were amazed.
That rock is basically time, frozen in stone.
How cool is that?

It’s moments like these — unexpected chats, local stories, new perspectives —
that make us love listening to Cape Breton a little more each day. 😊

🌌 An Unforgettable Night Under the Stars 🌌

What an amazing night !The photo truly doesn’t capture even 1% of the beauty we saw with our eyes.

We visited Two Rivers Observatory, and I was completely blown away. The host called it his “toy box” — he started exploring the universe 25 years ago, purely out of passion.

It was my first time seeing a galaxy through a telescope, and the view was absolutely breathtaking.

But what moved me even more than the stars was his curiosity, dedication, and joy.I honestly thought he was a professor of astronomy — that’s how much knowledge and passion he shared with us.

It reminded me: you don’t need to be a scientist to love the universe.

Curiosity belongs to everyone.

Happy Multiculturalism Day from Listen to Cape Breton! 🌏🎉

Last weekend, we visited the Fortress of Louisbourg — a powerful reminder of how people once built walls and castles to protect what they had, and to keep others out.

As someone from China, I couldn’t help but think of the Great Wall.In the East, we built walls. In the West, they built castles.Different stones, same purpose — defense through separation.

But walls, no matter how strong, don’t last forever. What lasts are the connections we build when we choose to listen, share, and understand.

On this Multiculturalism Day, we’re grateful for the chance to stand on old stones, and imagine new ways forward — together.

✨The Best of Cape Breton Gift Shop— Grand Reopening!✨

Today I visited the Shop to celebrate their reopening. I brought a small bouquet, hand-knitted by my mom who lives far away in China — thousands of miles apart, but connected through love, handmade craft, and warm wishes for this beautiful place.

While visiting, I couldn’t resist picking up some beautiful souvenirs which are perfect to bring back to friends and family abroad . If you’re looking for meaningful keepsakes that carry the spirit of Cape Breton, this shop is the perfect place.

What makes this shop truly special is not only its beautiful products, but also the people behind them. Many of the employees here are individuals living with intellectual disabilities. They work with great care, dedication, and pride. This social enterprise beautifully reflects Canada’s multicultural values and its care for vulnerable communities.

If you’re ever in Cape Breton, stop by, support local, and bring home not just a souvenir, but a story filled with warmth, resilience, and community spirit. 🌊❤️

Grateful beyond words.

Our Listen to Cape Breton interview with Harman Singh has been one of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on as a newcomer to Canada.

Harman’s story — from arriving in Cape Breton in the 1990s to becoming the CEO of Breton Ability — reminds us that every new beginning takes courage, patience, and heart.

This episode would not have come together without the support of a wonderful team:

To our amazing videographer Damien Tang– thank you for making every frame look so professional.

To our kind and dedicated camera assistant Yanis Be-happy– your time and effort meant so much.

To Jianhui Huang, my co-host and husband– thank you for standing by my side and believing in this project.

And to Harman and your team, thank you again for your honesty and inspiration.

Thank you to everyone who supported us by watching, sharing, or simply listening.

Listen to Cape Breton×Harman– Episode 3 is now live!

When Harman Singh immigrated to Canada in the 1990s, she made a clear decision:
She would continue working in the field of psychology — and she would start from the ground up.

Beginning as a volunteer, Harman took 8 years rebuilding her professional path in Cape Breton. Today, she is the CEO of Breton Ability and a respected leader in community inclusion and mental health advocacy.

In this episode, she shares her journey and two powerful lessons for newcomers:
Start by giving back — and don’t be afraid to pay your dues and believe in yourself.

If you’re wondering how to begin again in a new country, this story will speak to your heart.
