On the airport. So excited to get home. What a wonderful holiday spent with the best human ever! Loved every single second! But now we are ready to head home.

Final day in Rome... Mixed feelings: happy to be heading home, but still enjoying the trip enough to want more.

We started the day by going to Michelangelo's museum to catch a look at "Moses".

Then we made our way to the exhibition hall where we visited the Lego exhibition! This was an amazing place to visit. I even built a replica of the leaning tower of Pisa!

After that we walked to the less touristy part of Rome and had lunch at a restaurant where almost no english were understood! We took a 4km walk back to our accommodation, taking in the sites (antique buildings and structures) sounds (police sirens and Vespas) and smells (delicious food and occasionally the byproducts of human consumption of said delicious foods...)

Tonight we rest and then tomorrow we pack and say goodbye to Italy. Or as they say here: Arrivederci!

We made it to Rome!!! What an amazing place…. but someone sure left lots of rocks and rubble lying around! It must have been ruinously expensive to remove!🤣
We spent the first full day by starting with a tour of the Coliseum. Without a doubt, this must have been one of the most awe inspiring places in ancient times. The planning, building and ex*****on (pardon the double entendres) is magnificent! We also toured the Roman Forum and Mamertime prison. From there we did the Pantheon, Trevi fountain and then “The World’s Greatest Wife” dragged me up the Spanish Steps. Every single one of them. All the way to the top… Then I insisted on a bus to get home!!!

Today, we had early access to the St Peters Basilica followed by the Vatican city, a bus tour through the Vatican Gardens, a walk through the Vatican Museum, including The Sistine Chapel. After that, being somewhat tired and ever so slightly peopled out, we took a metro (anchovy style), back to the Rome Central station for a looooooooong afternoon dinner (with wine) and them some well deserved rest as we have averaged 16000 steps per day for the past 2 days.

We decided to show you in a video the beautiful place we are in now. Baia di Puolo. Check the comments for more photos!

We will make our way to Rome later today.

Our second full day in Venice and we had a full day… We started with a walk to St Mark’s Basilica attached to Doge’s Palace. Our Basilica tour was cancelled by the operator, but we still were able to walk through Doge’s palace. Suffice it to say that the entire palace was built to impress. From the art decorating the walls, to the walls and ceiling, everywhere you looked, there was something breathtaking! From there we travelled to the glassware island of Murano, where we watched a master glassblower, Marcus, make a beautiful vase and then shape a horse with flying mane and tail! The glassware were all amazing and we may have bought one or 2 articles!!

Leaving Murano, we took the boat to the very colourful island fishing village of Burano. After lunch we headed back to Venice for our final Venetian dinner and night. Next stop: Napoli and Sorrento!

Ahh…. Venice! We spent the day walking. Then we walked some more. Then we got lost and walked in circles. Then we gave up and took a Gondola ride. Then we walked and got “take away” local wine. Then we walked some more!! What a beautiful place. Food, drink, serenading gondoliers and lots of happy people around! Tomorrow, Doge’s Palace and Murano-Burano tour!

Our final stop for the day was the farming community of Monticchiello. This hidden gem is filled with inviting locals who are very proud of their town and area! We were received by our host, Guido, who recommended a local restaurant, made a reservation for us and then came to the restaurant to receive us and introduce us. It was one of the most intimate and personal experiences that we could ever wish for! The food, which we enjoyed over a 2 hour dinner, was divine and the service was exceptional! We finished dinner with an espresso and was back at our comfortable lodging to close out a wonderful day! Tomorrow, we drive to Florence, grab a train to Bologna and then onward to Venice!

Next stop on our escape was Pienza. This gorgeous town is settled on the hilltop overlooking valleys all round. The church square is filled with flowers and you get the feeling that there is a vibrance that comes from community.
The area is known for pici pasta and Pecorino cheese and ragu (wild boar). We sampled all of these and fell in love with the taste and the excitement that was shown by the people preparing and serving the meals. There was a pride and loyalty for the community that was clear to see.
From there on to our next stop!!

We had our last breakfast in Florence and then rented a car for the drive away from the hustle and bustle to the rolling hills of Tuscany! First things first…. Italian roads are wide enough for 2 vehicles…. Not 2 big vehicles…. Driving here is exhilarating and you cannot be distracted for a second!! Our first stop on the trip was the beautiful walled town of Monteriggioni. This town takes you back to a time when things were simple and life was good. We walked the cobbled streets through narrow passages and enjoyed a delightful avogado coffee. Then on to the next stop!

So "The Worlds Greatest Wife" dragged me to the Uffize Gallery that is way too awesome to explain here. We saw some shtuff... Fantastic shtuff...Leonardo Da Vinci ( Da Vinci os not his family name, he had no family name because he was the son of a noble man and a servant, though his dad paid for his schooling...) where was I... Oh yes, Leonardo only had a few painting and we saw some of them! And Michelangelo only ever created one painting and we saw that too!! At Uffizi. Then the wife dragged me to Brunelleschi’s Dome and made me climb the 463 stairs to the top. Then we had to climb 462 down (I missed one.) Then we had wine from a secret wine door and we all shouted "hooray!"

End of day three. We are pooped.
