They call me Coach Cathy…. It is part of who I am and what I bring to the table…. Every year I get to play as the Head Coach for the Woody's Triathlon swim training. Today, I did a presentation on Project Managing your Innovation for Technology Alberta. Here are a few take aways from the session….

One of the strongest takeaways:
“Scope before cost and timelines.”

Too many projects start with:
How much?
How long?

Instead of:
What are we actually building?
What does success look like?
What is NOT included?
Who needs to be consulted?

By simplifying project management into practical ex*****on principles entrepreneurs can use, the skills & processes to drive innovation environments where ideas evolve quickly.

A few key points included:
• Innovation without structure creates chaos
• Scope creep quietly kills ex*****on
• Stakeholder alignment matters early
• Agile thinking works best when balanced with disciplined decision-making
• Creativity is important but eventually you must “lock it in” to execute

Strong reminder that Alberta’s tech and innovation ecosystem is growing because of collaboration between entrepreneurs, operators, educators, consultants, and industry leaders willing to share real-world experience.

So much travelling in April and May for conferences and presentations - 3500 kms in 3 weeks... whew!

One of the amazing things I was asked to be part of was to do a session for YWCA Consulting Catalyst cohort. It started with a session on The Power of Strategic Project Management and then it was a CEO round table speed dating session and a fabulous celebration event.

Thanks so much to YW Calgary, Suzanne Ebelher, CMC, CPHR, MBA Barbara Guzman and so many other for the opportunity to share the ups and downs of Entrepreneurship and what it means to be a consultant!

It was also lovely to catch up with other powerful female consultants... Sheila Carruthers MBA-PR FCMC Pauline Patenaude, MBA, FCMC Cindy Erdosi, C.Mgr., CMgr MCMI, Prosci Erin Melnychuk and so many more!!!

Is your child interested in triathlon but wants to build skills and confidence before race day?
Woody’s Triathlon youth training is the perfect place to start. Designed for youth ages 5 – 19, these sessions focus on developing swim, bike, and run skills in a fun, supportive environment, just in time for race day on June 20.

📍 Location: Michener Aquatic Centre & surrounding area
📅 Sundays: May 24 & 31, June 7
🏁 Aquathlon: June 14 (practice the swim & run course)
💲 training Cost: $10 per session (pay at the pool) or $30 for all 4 sessions (includes aquathlon)

Thursday, I was asked to co-facilitate a day with Holly Sorgen at the Community Futures staff spring training. Community Futures Network of Alberta We worked with the group on an interative process to create programs for entrepreneurs. The 6 groups then pitched their idea to a panel and received feedback.
