Good morning!

This winter has been quite tame in comparison to our last two years, but it is not done with us yet. We are expecting some rain and possible mixed precipitation/ice pellets incoming around noon Wednesday continuing into Thursday morning. Essex County and Chatham-Kent regions could receive up to 35 MM of rain collectively over these two days. With the temperatures fluctuating above and below 0 C, it may cause for potential freeze and thaw conditions. Rain for the Windsor region is not expected to start until 1:00 PM EST but the Leamington and surrounding regions may see rain around 12:00 PM as the system approaches from the South.

Lake effect will play a factor as winds are expected to come in from the E at first between 40-60 km/h and then shift to SW by Thursday. Shifting winds and fluctuating temperatures may cause for messy conditions especially for the communities along the southern shoreline.

Use caution on your commute home tomorrow afternoon and on Thursday as surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Our crews will be out pre-salting and keeping a close eye on the system to ensure everyone a safe arrival home!

Good afternoon,

We are expecting snow to start late tonight or early morning Sunday as the system moves in from the west. With the temperatures fluctuating around 0 C, it may cause for some potential freezing rain and ice pellets throughout the storm. Snow for the Windsor region is not expected to start until 9:00 AM EST but Chatham and surrounding regions may see snow earlier depending on temperatures and lake effect. Expected snowfall is between 2-5 CM (0.5 - 2 IN).

Winds will be around 20 km/h from the SW with shifts to the NW by Monday morning and could cause snow to drift and blow-over in exposed areas. Lake effect enhancement is also a factor as usual.

Use caution on your commute tomorrow morning and into Monday as the potential for ice and slushy conditions is high. Temperatures will plummet into the -15 C range by Tuesday so crews will be out salting and scraping to ensure we are ready for the deep freeze.

Good afternoon everyone,

The snow is coming down steady and we are not expecting the storm to slow down in the next 12 hours. The storm will persist until approximately 10:00 AM EST Thursday morning when we will possibly see a brief break. Another system is expected to come in Thursday at 2:00 PM EST and continue to flurry into the early hours Friday morning. An average of 1-3 cm per hour is expected for an accumulative 15-20 cm by tomorrow with additional flurries on Friday throughout the day. Temperatures will be hovering around 0 C which will create wet, heavy snow and slippery road conditions.

With the recent melting we have experienced, there may also be newly formed ice patches concealed by the heavy snow as it compacts and temperatures drop though they are not expected to drop past -1 C (feels like -6 C).
Winds are steady around 20 km/h from the NW with shifts to the SW by Friday and could cause snow to drift and blow-over in exposed areas. Lake effect enhancement is also a large factor in uneven snow distribution and more intense wind gusts in certain areas.

Please use caution on your commute over the next two days as the potential for slippery roads and walkways is high. Our trusty crews have already made their rounds and will be keeping a watchful eye over the course of this system. We will continue to monitor the storm and will keep you updated on what the weekend has in store!

Here we go again, looks like it will be a white Christmas this year.
As some of you may have heard, we are expecting a large winter storm system moving into our region over the next two days with a brief pause in the system tomorrow afternoon. Snow flurries will begin as early as 1:00 AM EST tonight for the Windsor region and continue late into Friday afternoon around 4:00 PM EST. An average of 1 cm per hour is expected for an accumulative 10 cm by late tomorrow morning and possibly 15 cm in more northern or windy areas. Temperatures will drop from 3°C today to potentially-15°C by Friday afternoon steady into Sunday; with wind chill it may feel like -20°C.
High winds between 40-50 km/h from the Northwest will cause the newly fallen snow to drift and blow-over in exposed areas. With the possible rain today and sharp drop in temperatures, there may also be newly formed ice patches concealed by newly fallen snow. Lake effect enhancement is also a large factor in uneven snow distribution and more intense wind gusts in certain areas.
Please use extreme caution on your morning commute as the potential for rapid snow accumulation and ice formation is very high with this system. We encourage everyone to bunker down and stay home if you can - our crews will be ready and waiting for anything mother nature throws our way!

On behalf of all of us at Talis Group, stay safe and have a Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas!

Happy Thursday everyone,

We are expecting a winter storm system moving into our region over the next 24 hours. Snow flurries will begin as early as 7:00 PM EST tonight and continue late into Friday morning with the heaviest snow occurring at sunrise - it will persist until approximately 10:00 AM EST. An average of 1-3 cm per hour is expected for an accumulative 10-15 cm by late tomorrow morning and possibly 20 cm in more northern areas. Temperatures will drop from -6°C today to -12°C by Friday night until a slight warm up to 0°C on Sunday; with wind chill it may feel like -20°C.

High winds between 40-60 km/h from the North will cause the newly fallen snow to drift and blow-over in exposed areas. With the recent melting we have experienced, there may also be newly formed ice patches concealed by newly fallen snow as temperatures drop. Lake effect enhancement is also a large factor in uneven snow distribution and more intense wind gusts in certain areas.

Please use extreme caution on your morning commute as the potential for rapid snow accumulation is very high with this system. Stay warm and stay safe out there!

02/16/2022

Good evening,

There is a large and complex winter storm system moving in following tonight's rainfall. Rain is expected to begin around 6:00 PM EST tonight and continue into Thursday morning. The rain will persist into the afternoon tomorrow as temperatures remain above freezing. However, a sudden drop in temperatures around 11:00 AM EST Thursday to 0°C will create a wintry mix including freezing rain and ice pellets. Snow will then begin at 4:00 PM EST and is not expected to end until 3:00 AM EST Friday morning. Over the next two days we can expect around 20 cm of snow accumulation.

The warm temperatures today have created rapid melting, pooling and flooding in some low lying areas; this may create some large, dangerous ice patches to form as the temperatures drop again from -1°C Thursday, to -12°C by 8:00 AM EST Friday. New snow coverage may conceal freshly formed ice patches as well. To add to it all, winds are expected to reach 40 km/h with gusts at 60 km/h well into Friday creating drifting snow, ice accumulation and blow-over. The freeze and thaw effect today paired with the forecasted storm system will make for some messy days ahead with the potential of another event Friday evening.

Please use extreme caution if you plan to travel tomorrow as conditions are expected to be slushy, icy and slippery. On the bright side, it is great weather to stay in and have a movie marathon with all the essential snacks!

Stay warm and stay safe out there.

Happy Friday!

Today's system has been changing a lot over the last 24 hours and is heading in now with a rain and snow mixture which could cause some slushy conditions on your commute today.

Some parts of Essex County and Chatham-Kent may experience light snow starting at 7:00 AM EST before the rain starts around 9:00 AM. Precipitation is expected to fall most of the day and into the night for both areas carrying into the early hours of Saturday - Windsor may experience a few brief breaks in the storm this evening.

Winds will remain at 30 km/h from the NW with gusts up to 53 km/h. Temperatures are expected to hover above freezing for most of the day Friday causing melting but will drop to -15°C by Saturday night. Freeze and thaw is in effect so please continue to use caution in your travels as conditions still remain icy and slippery.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hello February!
As some of you may have heard, we are expecting a multi-day system to be moving through our region.
Beginning tonight around 9:00 PM EST with a heavy rain and snow mixture, the storm will transition into snow by 5:00 AM EST Wednesday morning. We may see up to 15-20 cm Wednesday as the snow will continuously fall all day. Another 10-15 cm will follow on Thursday into the evening. Temperatures will be hovering just above freezing until tomorrow, then will drop to -9°C by Thursday night. Wind will be in the mid 20 km/h range beginning on Wednesday and will gradually increase with potential gusts at 57 km/h by Thursday - this is known to cause blow-over and added accumulation especially on county roads and other seldom used areas. Please use extreme caution if you will be traveling during this event.
We will be watching the storm as it progresses and our crews will be hard at work battling the snow; any major or important information regarding the storm will be announced and updated.

Stay safe, stay warm!

Good Morning everyone,

We are keeping a close eye on a storm system that could bring some light snow into the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent regions. Scattered snow flurries between 2-6 cm are expected to start around 7:00 PM EST and end approximately at midnight tonight. Overcast will blanket the region for most of the day and temperatures will continue to drop into Friday. Brace yourselves for a severe cold front this weekend and use caution on your commute as the extreme temperatures create ice accumulation and hardened snow patches.
In case you do decide to brave the cold, our crews will be there to ensure a safe commute!

For any snow and ice maintenance inquiries, please call us at 519-250-1400 or visit https://www.talisgroup.ca/ for more information.

01/22/2022

Good evening,

We are observing some smaller systems shifting into the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent regions over the next couple of days.
Snow will begin Sunday morning but taper off as the afternoon approaches. However, Monday shows roughly 2 inches of snow accumulating over the day beginning approximately at 8:00 AM EST. Wind gusts could reach 40km/h causing snow drifts and blow-over on open stretches of road. We are keeping a close watch on the radar as the storm could shift, and some regions may see more accumulation than others.
Monday will be a messy commute that starts early in the morning - leave lots of time for traffic and potential icy conditions as the system moves through.
