Honouring Residents: Kitimat General Hospital Wrap Project.
After seeing the door wraps we have completed over the years at Terraceview Lodge, the Kitimat General Hospital reached out to have us wrap some of their doors in Acute Care and to create an interactive mural in the common space.
Working with admin staff and the occupational therapist, we designed 6 custom doors, 1 exit diversion door wrap ( a china cabinet) and a wall mural.
Besides looking better than just a white door or white wall, the wraps and murals do have a function in dementia care environments. Using the Dementiability model, implementing relatable imagery, interactive murals and retro designs aids residents in Memory Care who experience confusion, anxiety and boredom to mitigate some negative behaviours. Jobs like this are really special and it was an entire day filled with both working and chatting with residents who were so excited about their doors. Grateful to meet the residents and see first hand the impact this work has on their well-being and environments.
Thank you Kitimat General Hospital for this opportunity. We love how they turned out and hope to be back soon to add more colour to your hallways.
Stay tuned for our next showcase post coming soon.
