YOU SPOKE; WE LISTENED!

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to the 93 community members who completed our housing survey. Your feedback is the fuel for the Northern Lights Seniors’ Housing Co-op. Here is what we learned:

The Pas is Home: Most of you want to stay here, but you need a home that "works" for you (no stairs, less maintenance, more safety).

The 2-Bedroom Goal: Most households are looking for a 2-bedroom layout—enough space for life, but without the headache of a big yard.

Community Matters: You told us that being close to family/friends and having a common room to grab a coffee with neighbors is a top priority.

Ready to Lead: We were blown away that 44% of you want to help us run and manage this co-op!

What’s Next? We’re moving from "Research" to "Action."

Here is our immediate roadmap:

Finalizing the Location: We are currently evaluating potential sites to ensure the project is centrally located with easy access to the amenities our seniors use most. We want a location that balances independence with community connection.

Securing Seed Funding: To unlock major federal and provincial construction grants, we need to complete site-specific architectural and environmental studies. We are currently seeking $100,000 in foundational seed funding to get these "shovels-in-the-dirt" assessments started.

Advocating for the Project: We are taking these survey results to our Tri-Community councils to show them that this project is a MUST for our community's future.

How you can help:
Share this post! The more noise we make, the louder our case is when we sit down with government funders. We are building this for our parents, our grandparents, and eventually, ourselves.

Got to make it back to HQ in time for the North Forge Holiday Party. It's so great to see friends, coworkers and founders IRL, rather than through the intertubes!

Had a lot of fun shooting this! Big thank you to Vaughn for shooting and editing.

Community Futures Cedar Lake: Growing Connections with the New Tri-Community Website

The Pas, MB – [April 16, 2025] – Community Futures Cedar Lake is pleased to announce the launch of a new Tri-Community website, designed to serve the businesses, residents of and visitors to The Town of The Pas, Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and the Rural Municipality of Kelsey. This initiative directly addresses the findings of the 2024 Business Needs Assessment survey, which emphasized the importance of improved communication and access to information within the region.
The newly launched Tri-Community website (www.tricommunity.ca) will act as a central hub, providing businesses, residents and tourists alike with easy access to a wide range of information, including community events, local news, government services, and business resources. It aims to foster greater collaboration and understanding among the three communities, while also showcasing the region's unique attractions to visitors.

“This website launch is a significant step forward for the Tri-Community,” said Joe Cote, General Manager of Community Futures Cedar Lake. “It demonstrates the power of collaboration between The Pas, OCN, and the RM of Kelsey. This valuable resource will improve communication, enhance access to information, and ultimately strengthen our region, while also providing an easy to use platform for tourists to discover all that our area has to offer.”

The development of the website was a collaborative effort, involving input from representatives of all three communities. It reflects a shared commitment to building a more informed and engaged community, and a welcoming place for visitors.

Residents and tourists are encouraged to visit the new website at www.tricommunity.ca to explore its features. Business owners are requested to review their listings and inform Community Futures Cedar Lake, via the website, of any necessary modifications, additions, or subtractions.

“This website marks a new chapter in regional collaboration, promising a more connected and prosperous future for the Tri-Community," continues Cote. “With this launch, Community Futures Cedar Lake reaffirms its commitment to empowering the region and fostering sustainable growth for all its residents and visitors. The launch of this website is just the beginning; we look forward to its continued evolution as a vital resource for our region. We invite everyone to explore the new website and join us in growing a stronger, more vibrant tri-community."

Visit the new Tri-Community website today at www.tricommunity.ca and experience the growing connections firsthand.

I tried to talk my wife out of running a small business, which is the opposite of my conversations with most people. “Go get a cushy job. A 9-5 with benefits. Let me have the risky work.”

She replied, “If you can do it, I can.”

I don’t know if the average Joe knows just how dependent SMEs (especially in retail) depend on this week. I just got home after putting in a 16 hour day; and ready to do it again tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after.

To those of you in retail, keep grinding. To those shopping, support those local shops in your community!
