In our fundamental level project management course (PM Essentials: Part 1) we talk about the challenges of working within a Matrix Organization (there are many!). We also talk about how to overcome those challenges in order to achieve project success.

Often one of the biggest challenges is that resources, and resource owners, do not always know how to say “No” when necessary. Saying “Yes” to every request will often result in over allocated project resources which in turn will lead to missed deadlines and poor quality on project deliverables.

Learning how to say “No” properly, is an important people skill to master. This article has some solid advice to offer!

Many of us say yes to things that we don't want to do simply because we don't know how to say no. Problem solved.
