When safety and security feels shaken

“We’re in Canada this isn’t supposed to happen here”

Our feelings of safety and security might be rocked today.

There simply are no words for this mornings grief you may be feeling, other than to say what my grandma used to when something horrible would happen: “we’ll get through it together.”

Heavy hearts need community. Find the people that can be there for you when life feels heavy.

You’re not alone in your grief

It feels this way sometimes.
Sometimes it feels like no one understands.

Truthfully, they don’t.

You are the only one who can feel how you are feeling right now. Even if you have a sister or brother, even if you have multiple friends who have also experienced a loss.

They may not understand YOUR grief, but this doesn’t mean you have to do it alone.

Find the community of people that will carry you through. Friends, family, therapists, colleagues.

Remember, isolation in grief is not helpful. ❤️

Although I will not have a direct conversation about my beliefs as that is unprofessional in this setting. I have been asked this a couple of times now.

MY opinion when coming for grief work doesn’t matter. What does matter- is how safe you feel. Is that YOU feel compassion and welcomed by me and safe to share your thoughts and emotions in a judgment free space.

I have been advised not to answer this question directly. However if this is important to you, I want you to ask. You’ll absolutely know by my response 💙

The last Christmas…

You didn’t know it then but it was the last one.

The last Christmas you felt a childlike joy with your loved ones.

The last Christmas they were there.

The last time you got to where in the love and joy and comfort of your loved one.

If this Christmas season feels differently, it’s okay to not feel joyous.

It’s okay to say no to traditions.

Hold on a little tighter to the ones we have near.

Take the pictures and videos.

And know it’s okay to celebrate a little differently this year.

Let this be a reminder to let yourself grieve.

The same loss doesn’t mean the same grief.

You will grieve it differently than your mom.

Your dad.

Your sisters or brothers.

Your cousins or your friends.

Just because you experience a mutual loss, doesn’t meant you will feel the same as those around you and that’s okay.

Support each other through it and know not to compare your grief. You will all move through it differently.
