New week, new client love spotlight!

This review will forever be dear to my heart. L had worked a decade in the same role and wanted more. More growth opportunities, variety and a change (amen!). One small ask after another turned into L participating in all of the offerings found in my From the Ground Up career package. Talk about a true transformation from within!

It all started when L asked if I’d be willing to help shoot a 60 sec video that answered the quintessential interview question, why L was the best fit for a role at one of our largest employers. I jumped at the chance to test my skills in a new way and loaded up my car to help coach L (no pressure right!?). Soon I was working on videography, scripting, editing and everything in between. I’ll never forget when L asked if I could bring a comb to our session and help calm her nerves (It’s all in the details!).

I leaned into watching L succeed through her first and second rounds of interviews, negotiation of a higher salary and added flexibility of a delayed start date and finally the acceptance of an offer she was proud of.

I love clients who choose courage over comfort.

With gratitude,
Paige

Happy International Women’s Day!

I’m so humbled when I reflect on the women I have met and served since starting Bloom & Branch. This venture has connected me with women who are changing the game in their careers. Women who are working in male dominated sectors, women who are working to become cycle breakers, women who are working on their degree, women who are working to support themselves and their families through increased revenue streams, women who are choosing to follow their joy and so many other incredible things in between.

I love each and every one of you. Thank you for trusting me with your hopes and dreams. Thank you for inspiring me to keep going with my own. Thank you for following along in what I intend to be an uplifting and inclusive career space!đź’—

Getting the job is sometimes not the hardest part of the career development journey, sometimes it’s settling into the new role that demands the most of your energy. Here are some ideas I hope bring you perspective and comfort during your own career leap:

Keep an open mind
An open mind to their practices, culture, your new office space, coworkers and so on. It all deserves a chance. Look for the good and stay neutral about the rest.

Stay out of judgment
Be kind to yourself. You are doing the thing, the thing that many people are too scared to do. You are learning to be a beginner again and self compassion and patience will be important in getting you through this time.

Take control of your on onboarding
There should be a solid onboarding experience set up for you, yes, and I’m a huge believer that you also have to take your learning into your own hands. Are you a hands on learner? Ask a coworker to walk you through a process. Are you a visual person, ask for a tour or to shadow someone so you can get a better understanding of the business.

Find a mentor
Lean on HR or your manager to find a mentor who can help support you during your onboarding process. Having a person who can answer alllll of your questions and make sure you are aware of certain details is gold. Especially details like not to forget to wear pink on pink shirt day, the wifi password and how on the last Friday of the month the office goes out for lunch, can make the experience feel less lonely.

Be an observer
Take notes, observe situations, remember names, read the policies and complete your new hire training. Lean into being the newbie for a while and use this open time to immerse yourself in your new workplace culture.

Get visible
Find out of there are any groups you can join, meetings you can attend for you to learn the business and help people get to know you along the way.

Trust the process and stay the course. Looking for more support? I’m happy to offer you a soft place to land through one to one development coaching. Link in the bio.💗

Sweet T, a HR girl after my own heart. T came to me in full burnout mode. 🥺 Working tirelessly as a “helper” in a people focused career, while also being a mom, can lend itself to compassion fatigue.

We gently worked on addressing T’s immediate needs for rest, boundary setting and choosing the bigger life (life outside of work). We did this work while exploring T’s personality and did a deep dive into her strengths and opportunities through my career visioning process. T completed my career visioning guide and soon uncovered an untapped area of interest that she wanted to pursue. This was an a-ha moment for T and such a highlight for me! 🫶🏽

When T was feeling hopeful again, we tailored her resume to highlight this new passion. In T’s resume refresh, I wanted to amplify the accomplishments and value T was bringing to her sector that were not previously highlighted on her resume. I discovered a task that had been listed as a single bullet point was actually a massive undertaking and accomplishment of T’s that needed more attention! 👏

By the end of our time together, T was landing several interviews and was now showing confidence answering interview questions. We went through a mock interview together that helped T prepare to share her success stories.✨

T, You are so appreciated.đź’—

January in photos.

I believe what you manifest, you make happen for yourself. I always enjoy the process of visioning, the mulling over what I hope the year will bring. I’m a visual person and have found that what I keep track of, I keep up with.

I have quite the process, from creating a vision board, to picking a word for the year and forming intentions then goals. I couldn’t believe that no sooner did I add photos to my board, things were starting to happen! This is why I offer career visioning as part of my resume and interview services to my clients. Clarity and karma seem to act like bees and honey.

This year my intentions are grounded in family first, quality connections, deepening my faith, exploring hobbies, memory keeping, dreaming bigger, challenging fear, making the ordinary exciting, and being present.

How do you approach goal setting and the start of a new year? I’d also love to know, what was your favourite memory this month?

You want a new career this year, but don’t know where to start?

Try this.

Come up with one thing a person who wants a new career could do right now.

Maybe it’s writing out what they don’t want to do anymore.
Maybe it’s updating their resume with the courses they recently took.
Maybe it’s sending a message to meet up with an old coworker.

Now go take that action.

I do this often, it’s almost as if removing myself and approaching the situation objectively helps. I call this getting out of my head and my own way! Another thing I have found work well for me is to break down the vision into smaller actions. It can get overwhelming super quick if I don’t and this has a great way of helping to build up confidence in your ability to follow through and create natural momentum.

And so, starting today with small daily actions, you could be enjoying a different view come Spring.

That something new isn’t too far out of sight. Let’s go!

Sharing a Bloom & Branch review with you as part of my client love series. Take a peek at what my lovely client E had to say about her recent experience working with me.đź’—

Back in November I supported E to prepare an executive level cover letter for a coveted board of directors position. E had passion and a clear vision for why she wanted the position which made my job easy. E wanted a fresh set of eyes to review her rough draft, bring an HR perspective to knowing what skills of E’s to highlight and leverage my writing style to improve her final application. In a few short days I helped E narrow down her “why”, demonstrate her previous impact in similar positions and improve the flow of her application. Behind the scenes I went to work conducting extensive research on board level applications, gained a sense of E’s personal brand through a phone conversation and several text messages leading up to E submitting her application.

This was an exciting project for me and opened the door to offering a new version of resume and cover letter writing. Have a similar project you’d like a second opinion on? I’m happy to help.

With gratitude,
Paige

If a job opportunity presented itself to you right now would you be ready to submit your resume?

Stop letting a lack of preparation be another reason you talk yourself out of making the change you know you need to make in order to get the kind of life you want.

Often job searching for me has gone something like this....

A friend sends me a link to a job posting that closes tomorrow with a message that reads “I think you’d be great at this!”

First, friends like this are such gems! Next, if your resume has not been updated in years or even since your last position, welcome to the next 24 hours of researching previous job descriptions, reviewing the job posting, googling resume tips and editing. Wow!

I can help you with all of this heavy lifting up front through my career support services! 💪🏽

I refresh resumes and cover letters that will feel authentic to you, read professionally and give you a competitive edge to get the job you want.✨

You never know where life may lead you and how good will it feel to say YES because you prepared, you sought out support and now you can!
