For our team at Superior Resources Inc., the Greenstone area, is a place all to familiar to us. Not only is it where we execute the majority of our operations, but our team has personal ties to the area as well. As a natural resource management company with operations in the forest, utility & mining sectors, we see the value rural communities add to our district of northwestern Ontario. When hearing about the financial strain faced by the Geraldton Royal Canadian Legion Robert Frost Branch #133 due to maintenance and repairs needing to be done to the facility, without hesitation we knew that Superior Resources would delightedly contribute to its repair.
The Legion in Geraldton has been in existence since 1938. To say that this facility is a crucial part of the community is an understatement. Over the past 85+ years, the Legion stands as a communal space which has been used for numerous events including markets, meetings, shags, weddings, celebrations of life, fundraisers and so much more. Unfortunately, the facility is in dire need of maintenance including replacement of the roof and repair of their accessibility chairlift. The harsh winters and unpredictable weather we face in northwestern Ontario cause for inevitable damage to buildings, and the importance of a secure roof aids in preventing further deterioration. In addition, the chairlift is a necessary accessibility feature allowing seniors, and peoples with disabilities to be brought back and forth from the facilities lower level. As the Legion is attempting to broaden their membership and host additional activities throughout the year, having a safe and accessible facility is a necessity to the livelihood of the community. The Legion brings much joy to the community of Geraldton as it serves as a space for community engagement, celebration, social inclusion, and recreation. Especially during the hardships society has experienced during these last few years, the Legion contributes to the wellbeing of its community members and should be able to be accessed and enjoyed by all for many more years to come.
The Legion welcomes additional financial donations to be put towards this repair, as well as overall maintenance of the facility. Donations can be made by e-transfer to [email protected], or feel free to inquire for more information at (807) 854-0901.
