Agriculture Funding Announcement
The Food Safety and Growth Initiative Intake 2 is accepting applications to help small agri-food business modernize food safety systems, adopt new food safety and traceability technologies, and support business growth.
Intake opens October 19th, 2026.
Applicants can receive up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of $75,000 per project.
Eligible projects may include equipment upgrades, food safety program development, third-party assessments, certifications, and employee training.
Applications accepted until March 1, 2027.

The Tourism Development Fund (formerly the MAT Fund) is proud to support the Northeastern Ontario Mines and Minerals Symposium (NEOMMS) with a $10,000 contribution.

Organized by the Porcupine Prospectors and Developers Association, NEOMMS is an annual educational conference and trade show focused on geology and mineral exploration. This year’s event takes place October 6–8 at the McIntyre Community Centre in Timmins.

The symposium brings together industry professionals, vendors and attendees from across Northeastern Ontario and beyond. When the event was last held in Timmins in 2024, it attracted approximately 100 attendees, including visitors from Ottawa, Toronto, Thunder Bay and Michigan. The 75 out-of-town attendees staying in Timmins over three days generated an estimated $10,550 in local economic impact.

Supporting Tourism & Quilts for Survivors!

Tourism Development Fund Chair Jessica Davis is pictured presenting a $10,000 Tourism Development Fund cheque to Vanessa Genier, Founder & CEO, and Clara Wheesk, Board Chair, of Quilts for Survivors.

The funding supports the annual Orange You Glad We Are Sewing Retreat, taking place September 27–30 in Timmins.

The retreat welcomed participants to our community, generating 50 overnight stays and an estimated $12,600 in local economic impact. Events like this not only bring visitors to Timmins, but also support local accommodations, restaurants, shops and other businesses.

Thank you to Quilts for Survivors for bringing this meaningful event back to Timmins and helping showcase our community as a destination for visitors and events.

Celebrating the Tamarack Festival!

The Tourism Development Fund was proud to support the Tamarack Festival with a $6,000 contribution this year!

Now in its third year, the Tamarack Festival is a multi-disciplinary arts festival bringing together theatre, music, literary arts, visual arts, dance and more — creating opportunities for Northern artists to present their work while giving audiences the chance to experience professional arts right here at home.

This year, the festival welcomed 80 visitors from outside the area over three days, generating an estimated $18,750 in local economic spinoff.

But the impact goes beyond tourism. Tamarack creates paid opportunities for independent artists, provides professional development workshops, and brings artists from across Northern Ontario together to build connections, collaborate and strengthen our creative community.

The Timmins Open Pickleball Tournament, held September 11–12, welcomed 80 participants from Timmins and surrounding Northern Ontario communities.

The tournament generated approximately 80 hotel room nights and an estimated $13,500 in local economic impact.

With $2,500 in support from the Tourism Development Fund, the event helps bring visitors to Timmins, support local businesses and showcase our growing reputation as a destination for sports and recreation.

Feast on the Farm is coming to Timmins!
On September 12, Radical Gardens will host Feast on the Farm, a signature culinary experience created by the Culinary Tourism Alliance.
Guests will enjoy a multi-course dinner prepared by guest chefs, featuring produce from Radical Gardens and ingredients sourced from regional suppliers — showcasing the incredible local food and agriculture we have right here in Northern Ontario.
The Tourism Development Fund provided $6,000 in support for this event, which is expected to bring approximately 60 visitors who will stay overnight and generate an estimated $4,700 in local economic impact.
We’re pleased to support events that bring visitors to Timmins, support local businesses and producers, and showcase our community as a culinary destination.

Cricket is bringing visitors — and economic impact — to Timmins!

The Timmins Mayors Annual Meet 2026, held August 29–30, brought 100 players to Timmins for two nights, generating an estimated $33,737 in local economic impact.

Since 2022, cricket tournaments have welcomed teams from communities across Ontario, helping put Timmins on the map as a destination for sports tourism.

The Tourism Development Fund was proud to support this year’s tournament with $10,000 in funding, presented by Mike Kentish.

“Organizing Cricket Tournaments in Timmins puts our city in the limelight in the world of sports. Since 2022, teams from multiple cities in Ontario have visited Timmins. Multiple cricket tournaments also provide community members with the opportunity to take part in the sport, try something new and support their physical and mental well-being.”

Timmins is reaching for the stars!

The Launch Canada Rocket Engineering Challenge continues to put Timmins on the map as a destination for innovation, aerospace and STEM education.

This week , Launch Canada welcomed 700 participants and visitors for 8 days, with over 120 rockets launched throughout the week. This event generates an estimated $49,342 in local economic spinoff, supporting Timmins hotels, restaurants, businesses and other local services.

Through the Tourism Development Fund (formerly the Municipal Accommodation Tax Fund), the City of Timmins provided $100,000 in funding to support this nationally significant event.

Launch Canada brings students, industry professionals and aerospace enthusiasts from across Canada to our community, creating hands-on learning opportunities while showcasing Timmins as a place where innovation and opportunity can take flight.

We’re proud to support an event that not only brings visitors to Timmins, but helps inspire the next generation of Canadian engineers, scientists and aerospace leaders.

Timmins’ future is floating up. 🎈
We continue our series on Timmins’ role in Canada’s space economy with a look at the country’s only operational stratospheric balloon launch facility, located in Timmins.
Through an agreement with the Canadian Space Agency and France’s Centre National d’Études Spatiales, researchers launch giant scientific balloons from Timmins into the stratosphere (up to 45 kilometres above Earth). Timmins’ ideal latitude, safe airspace, predictable weather patterns, and low population density create the perfect environment to test new technologies and prepare equipment for future space missions.
Collaborations like this help diversify Timmins’ economy by attracting world-class research tied to Canada’s growing space sector. We are ready for what’s next in aerospace and space technology.
