⛏️ Go beyond the checkbox: Exploration Perspectives.

I’ve seen exploration and mining through many lenses—as an ecologist, environmental monitor, technical and regulatory professional, Indigenous engagement practitioner, and someone who supports responsible mining.

I’m also born, raised and still living in Timmins, a mining community where the industry is part of everyday life. I travel the same routes as ore haul trucks, see mineral development all around us, and have worked on nearly every mine site in the area. Mining also supports many local families, including my own.

These experiences have shown me how responsible mining depends on careful environmental monitoring, meaningful engagement and sound decision-making.

Through my work alongside Indigenous communities, I’ve also learned that two people can walk the exact same site and see very different things.

That’s the perspective I want to share on October 29 in Timmins.

This one-day workshop brings together Western scientific and Indigenous knowledge perspectives to help participants think more holistically about exploration activities, potential impacts and the land around them.

It’s for anyone who touches exploration, including geologists, environmental staff, project managers, field crews, contractors, consultants, Indigenous engagement teams, First Nation Lands staff, community monitors and leadership.

We don’t speak on behalf of communities. Every community holds its own knowledge, values and priorities. Instead, we’ll explore big-picture perspectives and considerations that might help you notice something you hadn’t considered before.

Because better engagement doesn’t always start with another process or checklist.

Sometimes it starts by learning to see what someone else sees.

I’m thrilled to share it!

Indigenous engagement and advisory services continue to be the foundation of my work, but Sigma Wolf is growing. The new website reflects the expanded range of support I now provide, including facilitation and mediation, field support, training and workshops, environmental and project assistance, and the evolving Beyond the Checkbox training series.

A huge thank you to Ricky Houle for helping bring this vision to life. Ricky worked through my endless ideas, last-minute “small changes” 😆, and very specific expectations to create a website I’m genuinely proud of.

Behind the Wolf — Part 5

People Are My Favourite Puzzle

Some people love solving technical problems.

I love solving people problems.

Not because people are broken.

Because every challenge has a story.

Different perspectives.

Different priorities.

Different fears.

Different goals.

Somewhere in all that noise is usually a path forward.

I genuinely enjoy untangling the messy middle—asking the questions others don’t think to ask, finding common ground, and helping people have conversations they didn’t think were possible.

That’s what led me to complete my mediation and conflict management training.

Because while reports, permits, and policies matter…

Relationships move projects forward.

Helping people understand one another is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

Independent. Insightful. Impactful.

True prosperity happens when Indigenous communities, industry, and government stop working in silos and start aligning toward shared goals.

The Indigenous Forum at the Canadian Mining Expo on June 10 in Timmins is focused on exactly that- Aligning pathways to prosperity through honest dialogue, relationship-building, and practical collaboration.
