ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days | Day 1, Part 2

What a great afternoon of celebrating together!

The TDC team had a blast last Monday helping run the lunch BBQ station alongside our amazing partners Jeff and James from Surfside Grill. It was so much fun seeing everyone enjoying the bouncy castles, sharing a meal, and spending time together.

Of course, the dunk tank brought plenty of laughs too! A big shoutout to Timmy, Hjalmer, Jessie, Nik, and Alec for being such good sports and taking their turn in the tank.

One of the most meaningful moments of the day came from Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks. ƛ̓eekoo ƛ̓eekoo for bringing the Tribal Parks Allies together and honouring their commitment as Allies. It was beautiful to watch each Ally be wrapped in a blanket in recognition of that relationship and commitment.

Pictured above are Jared Beaton, General Manager of Tin Wis Resort, and Kyle Mander, Operations Manager of Tsawaak RV Resort & Campground, being blanketed as Tribal Parks Allies.

From good food and plenty of laughs to meaningful moments of recognition, it was another wonderful part of ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days. ƛ̓eekoo to everyone who made the day so special!

Reflecting on what an incredible time we had at ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days last week!

There was something truly special about coming together with community, and we were so happy to be part of the celebrations.

The week kicked off with the ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days Parade, where the TDC team joined alongside the teams from Highway 4 Hydro (H4H), Tin Wis Resort and Tsawaak RV Resort & Campground, to walk, laugh, and celebrate together.

And we have to give a huge shoutout to the H4H team for the incredible float they created, it was such an amazing creation and definitely one of the highlights of the parade!

ƛ̓eekoo to everyone who organized, participated, and came out to celebrate. It was a beautiful way to spend time together, reconnect, and celebrate ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Days.

We already can't wait for next year!

Embrace the Ocean is now live on the Tin Wis Resort blog.

Written by Erin Linn McMullan, this month's feature highlights the deep relationship between the Pacific Ocean and the ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ and nuučaanuł Peoples, whose stewardship of these lands and waters continues to guide how we care for this place today.

Through the perspectives of Tla-o-qui-aht knowledge holders and Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks Allied partners, including Tofino Paddle Surf, Tofino Yoga, Tuff City Saunas, Paddle West Kayaking, Surfrider Pacific Rim, and mułaa Rising Tide Surf Team, the article reflects on the importance of reciprocity, destination stewardship, and our shared responsibility to care for the ocean for future generations.

As kaamatḥ Levi Martin shares:

"And you always give back to the land, give back to the ocean, to the river, to the environment. So that it will always be plentiful. It'll always be there." In "Belonging in Indigenous Lands: Resurgence, Reciprocity, and Environmental Stewardship in the Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks" (2026).

Thank you to Erin Linn McMullan and everyone who contributed their knowledge and perspectives to this piece.

We invite you to read "Embrace the Ocean" at the link here: https://tinwis.ca/embrace-the-ocean/
