In my conversation with Joy Asibey-Gabriel last week, she talked about how style can be a portal to becoming more of ourselves. 😍

She shared that while of course we can use our clothes as a way to embody how we feel on the inside, we can also use our style to *intentionally cultivate* the person we want to be.

We may not feel confident enough to wear that bold lip or the sequins dress, but the act of choosing them can be enough to give us the confidence to wear them with pride. 💃🏻

So my question is: what could you cultivate in yourself by starting to embody it? What could you get up the gumption to do by simply doing it? Who could you become by starting to act like that person?

I’m so excited to announce the Signature Style Workshop with Joy of ! 💃🏻🎉❤️

This will be my second time bringing in an expert to teach about a super-important topic related to entrepreneurship. Our first was Creative Money, taught by , where we explored how to manage money, cash flow and taxes as a self-employed creative type!

This time, Joy is going to be helping us find our signature style so that we can show up more fully as ourselves in our lives and businesses.

Here’s what she wrote:

…I don’t know about you, but I could use some of that style energy in my life, especially after the last year of wearing an embarrassing amount of leggings all the time 😅

Any other lifelong learners in the house? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Last year in the midst of the pandemic I thought I would have MORE time to read and learn (my favourite hobby), but it was actually the opposite. Most of the time, I had zero energy to do anything outside of the basic necessities.

As things have started opening up here in Toronto again, I'm finding that one huge positive thing (apart from being able to safely see loved ones!) is that I have more bandwidth for learning again!

Snapshot of what I'm currently excited to be learning about in my spare time:

💸 getting back into the FIRE movement & investing & crypto, oh my!

📹 taking lessons on how to be a bonafide videographer with Absurd Visuals

💇🏻‍♀️ finding new ways to style & curl my hair

🤓 continuing my deep diving love affair with Notion to keep improving my work setup

🍅 how to keep my patio tomato plant alive & happy!

☀️ Win a spot at The Foundery Retreat: Online! ☀️

After retreat registration closed last week, we still had one spot left at the retreat. But instead of trying to force it or keep hustling through the traditional channels (neither of which felt right to me), I started dreaming about giving away one spot to a member of my community!

The more I thought about it, the more this last open spot felt like an *opportunity*, rather than a problem. ❤️

One of my social justice commitments is to create more accessibility in my business, especially to those who may experience systemic oppression. And I'm also interested in doing business differently and trying new things! As said, when I told her about this idea: "You are allowed, in fact encouraged, to pivot." 🙏🏼

The bottom line is that I'm in a position to offer this experience to someone who might need it right now, so I will. Money is not the only thing that is important to me in my business: relationships, accessibility, and innovation also matter deeply.

In my newsletter today, I shared my ambivalence (in the truest sense of the word!) about the world opening up back up again, and how much grace we need to give ourselves (in life and business) as we make this transition. Our bodies might need some time to catch up, after the year we've just had. ❤️

I also reminded us (and myself) that today is only the FIRST official day of Summer - a fact that I forget every single year when I feel like I'm *already* somehow running out of summertime. Hey hey: it's only just begun.

I ended my letter with these prompts, which maybe you also need to hear today: ⬇️

Where can you invite in more slowness? Where can you pace yourself? Where can you be gentler? Where can you take your time?

You are exactly where you need to be. ✨

We discuss the importance of not claiming "procrastinator" as an identity and share some strategies for working *with* your procrastination instead of fighting against it. ✅

Apparently I never posted this absolutely glorious baklava oatmeal with pistachio, blood orange, and freggin' Nurture Sesame Rose Salt (I know) to the feed? So I am rectifying that! You're welcome. 😂

This is just one example of the magic we made at the first online Foundery Retreat this past January! There was also work sprinting and cocktails and camaraderie galore. ✨

So we're doing it again this July 16-18! 🎉 On the fence about retreating with us? Some reasons this might be right for you:

✨ Friendly reminder for your Monday: You can't use up your creativity! ✨

Or as Elise Cripe says: "You're not going to run out of ideas."

Or as Gretchen Rubin says: "Spend out."

Creativity requires trust. When we create new things, we need to have faith that there will be more where that came from. (Spoiler alert: there is always more where that came from.) 🙏🏼

In fact, I think that when we don't use up our best stuff, we lose it. The spark goes away. The idea moves on to someone else (a la Big Magic).

So use what you have! Creativity begets creativity, and creativity is always better when shared. ❤️
