Dear Newcomers: Here are some successful job search tips & strategies to gain Canadian experience! ✅
1. Create a Website to Market Your Personal Brand:
Think about the skills that you are bringing from your home country. Make sure to highlight these skills by creating your own personal website! In no time, you will have employers knocking at your door for an interview.
2. Participate in Various Networking events:
Attend hiring events, connect with recruiters and employers within the industry you are interested in. If you are persistent and keep in contact with the people you’ve met with, you will be certain the top of mind & will get that interview in no time!
3. Perfect Your “Introduction Email” Writing Skills:
If you don’t have the strongest writing skills, get a professional or someone you know to help you write a great email intro that tells the hiring managers who you are and what you have to offer, aligning with the particular job. Be direct and to the point!
4. Consider Consulting or Volunteering Your Services:
As mentioned above, by having a personal website, you can highlight your consultative services. In addition, sometimes the best way to gain experience is to offer your services for free. This can include volunteering, an internship, or offer a consulting trial of your services. This word “free” may not sound appealing but just remember that this is a way great way to get your foot in the door, gaining Canadian experience and a job offer down the road! Lastly, remember that you don’t need to mention on your resume that this type of work was done for free.
