A great night in Kearney! Global Battery Materials and the Kearney Mine were proud to support the Kearney Regatta Labour Day Celebration as this year’s music sponsor this past Saturday, September 5th.

It was great to see Kearney and surrounding community members come together on Main Street and along the waterfront for an evening of live entertainment, including an energetic performance by the Samba Squad, followed by a spectacular fireworks display over Kearney.

We were pleased to be there throughout the evening, connecting with local residents and taking part in one of Kearney’s great community traditions.

Thank you to the Town of Kearney, Ontario, the organizers, volunteers, performers, community organizations and everyone else who helped make the evening such a success. We’re proud to support events that bring people together and look forward to continuing to be an active part of the Kearney community.

We're excited to share that Global Battery Materials has signed a Letter of Agreement with the five First Nations — Dokis First Nation, Henvey Inlet First Nation, Magnetawan First Nation, Shawanaga First Nation Administration, and Wasauksing First Nation Administration — whose traditional territories encompass the Kearney Mine.

This agreement establishes a framework for us to work together toward a potential partnership that could include equity participation, an energy partnership, and long-term collaboration around stewardship of the surrounding lands and waters.

This is an important step in our ongoing discussions, and we look forward to continuing this work together as we move toward developing a broader Partnership Framework.

We know there is strong interest in what’s happening at the Kearney Mine, and we’ll continue to keep our community informed as this process moves forward and more details become available.

On July 23rd, 2026, Global Battery Materials was pleased to welcome MPP Graydon Smith and his staff, along with representatives from the Town of Kearney, Ontario, including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, CAO/Clerk, CBO/Fire Chief, and the DCBO/Facilities Manager for a tour of our Kearney Mine. It was a great opportunity to showcase the site’s existing infrastructure, which we’re leveraging to bring the prior-producing graphite mine back into operation.

The visit began with a safety and security briefing led by Karl Trudeau, our COO of Mining. Guests then toured the mill, where our team explained the steps involved in producing graphite locally and the role of each heavy-duty machine on site. The tour continued to the tailings pond and concluded at the polishing pond, where we discussed our team’s plan to advance safe and responsible mining practices as part of our rapid restart strategy.

We sincerely thank MPP Smith, his staff, and the Town of Kearney representatives for taking time out of their schedules to meet with us, ask thoughtful questions about the economic opportunities our graphite operations will bring, and learn more about what’s happening at the Kearney Mine. Each guest left with a sample of graphite, and an informational brochure about the project.

We value opportunities to share information directly with local and regional leaders and look forward to continuing these important conversations. Stay tuned for future updates from the Kearney Mine!

Global Battery Materials just announced the positive Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for our Kearney Graphite Project in Ontario.

This milestone represents an important step forward in our work to responsibly restart the past-producing Kearney Mine and contribute to a secure North American supply of natural graphite.

The Kearney Graphite Project builds on the site's mining history, existing infrastructure, and the strength of the surrounding region. As we move forward, we remain committed to working collaboratively with local communities and Indigenous partners.

The Kearney Graphite Mine is located within the traditional territory of the Anishinabek Peoples. We respectfully acknowledge the deep and enduring connection that Indigenous communities have to these lands and waters.

We are proud to be part of a region that includes the communities of Magnetawan First Nation, Henvey Inlet First Nation, Wasauksing First Nation, Dokis First Nation, and Shawanaga First Nation. Their stewardship, knowledge, and presence continue to shape the landscape and history of this area.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and recognize the important role Indigenous Peoples have played—and continue to play—in our communities and across Canada.

We're pleased to introduce Noah Thomson as a Community Relations Lead at Global Battery Materials!

Noah is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of collaborative relationships between our team and the local communities surrounding the Kearney Mine, including regional First Nations connected to the project. He will spearhead open houses, workshops, career fairs, community meetings, cultural awareness initiatives, and other engagement activities. He'll also serve as a local point of contact for community feedback.

Noah will drive local engagement and transparent communication as GBM advances responsible development of the Kearney Mine, one of the largest flake graphite deposits in North America.

The Kearney Graphite Mine has been part of this region's story for generations.

As the timeline below shows, the mine has a long history that is closely connected to the communities, workers, families, and Indigenous peoples who have lived and worked in the area over the years.

Today, Global Battery Materials is working to write the next chapter of that history. With production targeted for late 2027, our focus is on responsibly advancing the project while building meaningful relationships with local communities and First Nations, creating opportunities for the region, and contributing to a secure North American supply of graphite critical minerals.

Global Battery Materials was honored to be invited to present at a recent Town Hall for Magnetawan First Nation members. It was an opportunity for our team to engage directly with one of the five local First Nation communities and share our plans for the restart of the Kearney Mine, the largest confirmed flake graphite deposit in North America.

Our Director of HR, Kaitlyn Paiement, discussed upcoming job opportunities and the potential benefits for local workers and families, while our Sr Director of Environmental, Steven Rebellato, shared details about our mining operations and commitment to sustainability as we move forward responsibly. Also on hand to present and answer community member questions were Sr Director of External Affairs, Alina Shams, as well as COO of Mining, Karl Trudeau.

The evening included a thoughtful Q&A session, giving community members the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with our team. We were truly grateful to have such open and meaningful conversations.

It was also great to debut and hand out some new company swag — including our new branded notebooks!
