Brantford dental clinic permanently closed after IPAC inspection due to significant infection prevention and control lapses. If your practice were inspected today, are you confident you would meet current standards?
Patients have been advised by the local public health unit to undergo blood testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV, following the discovery of improper sterilization and disinfection practices. Issues included the absence of spore testing, incorrect sterilization packaging, labelling and logging, failure to protect clean and sterile instruments from cross-contamination, and the use of soiled gloves outside the point of use for other clinical tasks. The public health unit concluded that the clinic’s processes did not comply with the Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee (PIDAC) Best Practices for Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization of Medical Equipment/Devices (May 2013).
