Black judges in Canada have reshaped how courts understand justice — by insisting that law engages with history, inequality, and lived reality, not just abstract rules.

This Black History Month, we honour the impact of Black judges whose decisions and leadership continue to shape a more accountable and accessible justice system.

It's important to recognize the barriers that result in diminished opportunity for newcomer women and that these barriers are pushing them to pursue entrepreneurship as a career option.

These barriers include.

1. Structural Inequality
-not recognizing foreign credentials or dismissing experience as "Not Canadian"

2. Networking, as a valuable mechanism to build connections and seek opportunities, is not prevalent in countries where most people are coming to Canada from, and is another skill that people need to acquire and be comfortable with in order to get a job.

3. Juggling family responsibilities with a new career can be a complex task, especially due to the shortage of affordable and accessible child care options.
