Rinnai Smart Connect™ for quick tankless setup.

Custom Vac Ltd in Winnipeg, Manitoba, recently needed to do a quick swap of tankless water heaters for a busy pizzeria in town.

The restaurant's existing Rinnai tankless unit had served the owners well, providing unlimited hot water for the kitchen and restrooms, but it was out of warranty and, unfortunately, it had never been serviced by the previous installers. Rinnai tankless water heaters, like all water heaters, need routine maintenance to perform their best and last their longest.

"During my initial visit about 2 months ago, I found a significant amount of outdoor debris lodged in the air intake and combustion air blower," says Donald Baker, Journeyman HVAC Technician at Custom Vac. "We cleared that and the codes and got it going again. Our plan was to flush the unit during our next visit. Then, before we could, we received a new service request. We arrived at about 1:00 pm and found a bunch of new error codes - 10, 11, 12, 57, and 5."

"We explained the benefits between the old and new units and highlighted the new Bluetooth® connection," says Donald. The Rinnai CX commercial tankless water heater comes with Smart Connect™, a Bluetooth-powered feature that allows professionals to pair their mobile devices directly to the unit without needing a Wi-Fi network. It streamlines initial setup, registration, and troubleshooting through the Rinnai Central™ App.

"Knowing the unit had never been flushed, it was decided to install a new unit rather than keep investing in the old one," says Donald. "ROBINSON Supply immediately sent over the new unit, and by 6 PM that same day, my co-worker Chase Dranez had the new one installed, commissioned, and the restaurant was back in full operation!"
