We are beginning to share photos from our unique event, WOMEN WHO BUILD: Leadership in Action., which brought together three incredibly important areas on one platform: business, politics, and women’s leadership.
Why was it important for us to connect these topics?
Because modern women’s leadership is not limited to one area. Women build companies, strengthen communities, work within public institutions, participate in political life, and contribute to important decisions. At the same time, they continue to care for their families, raise children, and navigate the daily challenge of balancing their personal lives, careers, and responsibilities to their communities.
It is not an easy path.
Why do women still remain underrepresented in politics? Why is it more difficult for many women to put their names forward, express their ambitions, and take their place at the table where important decisions are made?
Women often face double standards, greater public scrutiny, insufficient support, limited access to financial resources, and the challenge of combining a political or professional career with family responsibilities. They are expected to be successful professionals, caring mothers and partners, and active members of their communities—all at the same time.
That is why it was so important for us to invite women with diverse professional and personal experiences. We wanted to hear not only about their achievements, but also to have an honest conversation about difficult decisions, setbacks, uncertainty, responsibility, and the courage to continue moving forward.
Today, we are sharing the first collection of photographs from our Women in Politics panel discussion.
Our sincere thanks to Bonnie Crombie for sharing such an honest and inspiring story about her personal and professional journey. Before entering politics, Bonnie built a successful career in business and later decided to dedicate herself to public service. She spoke about what inspired her to take that step, the challenges she encountered, and how her years serving as Mayor of Mississauga shaped her as a leader.
Her story reminded us that entering politics does not always begin with a political career. It often begins with a desire to improve one’s community, accept responsibility, and use personal and professional experience in service to others.
We also thank Ramsha Haq—a legal professional, entrepreneur, community advocate, and candidate for Mississauga City Council in Ward 9.
Ramsha spoke about her experience in accounting, auditing, investigations, government contracting, and business consulting, as well as her work with residents and municipal institutions. She demonstrated a deep understanding of how laws, government decisions, and financial policies affect people’s everyday lives.
Her presentation was thoughtful, confident, and highly relevant. Ramsha is ready to embrace new challenges and hopes to represent Ward 9 residents on Mississauga City Council, advocating for responsible governance, transparency, housing affordability, and meaningful community participation in decision-making.
Our sincere thanks also go to Marion Nader, CEO of Nexus Strategy Group and an experienced political strategist who has worked in politics, government, and election campaigns for more than 20 years.
Marion shared the valuable perspective of someone who has spent many years working alongside political leaders and understands what happens behind the scenes in politics. She spoke about strategy, influence, the complexity of the political environment, the challenges women encounter, and the importance of professional support for those who choose a path in public service.
This was more than a conversation about politics. It was a conversation about choices, responsibility, social change, and every woman’s right to be heard.
We created Women Who Build so that stories like these could be shared—so that women can see real examples of leadership, find support, exchange experiences, and understand that their knowledge, professionalism, and lived experience are needed in business, within our communities, and in politics.
We thank our speakers for their honesty, strength, and willingness to share not only their achievements but also their personal journeys.
