Another anthropological “classic” book by Evans-Pritchard. Pritchard’s writing is always very clear and has brilliant arguments. In this book he explains how the Azande of South Sudan use magic to explain the events that are beyond explanations or understanding. If you are into magic and want to know more about its social role and its connection with religion and culture, this book will help you to understand these issues more clearly.

This anthropological debate about the nature of gift giving and “gift-economy” continues to the present day.
