The NgΓ€be-BuglΓ© are one of the seven groups of indigenous people of Panama. They have been the backbone of the coffee industry in Panama since the late 19th century. Originally a Nomadic tribe, they have fought for their physical and cultural survival since the arrival of the Europeans in 1501.Β
Nowadays known as Comarca NgΓ€be-BuglΓ©, this land is the result of more than 100 years of fighting for Independence. In a district of this Comarca called Guayabal, a group of 7 families have been trying to survive as coffee farmers since the 1950βs. Their farm is located over 2 hours walking from the nearest road, at an altitude of over 1,500m above sea level. Without access to roads, let alone access to decent markets, they have been working hard and producing a quality coffee that typically gets sold at a price that barely covers the cost of production. Guaranteeing decent living conditions, livable wages and a reasonable profit margin, should be among the top priorities for coffee buyers and consumers nowadays. By purchasing this Guayabal coffee, we work to make a difference in the lives of these producers, and share this delicious, authentic, Panamanian coffee with the world.Β
