Today (Sept 30th) is Truth and Reconciliation day in Canada, a newly recognized day to honour the survivors of the Canadian Residential School System, where Indigenous children were removed from their families and put in Euro-centric school. Many didn't survive. Those who survived have life-long trauma.

Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commison issued 94 Calls to Action. Call #92 speaks to Corporate Canada to incorporate Indigenous Peoples into our businesses in various ways.

Another great week of logistics! On Tuesday I got to attend the CAPDM conference on behalf of Globyz BioPharma Services . The Canadian Association of Pharmacy Distribution Management sounds pretty niche, but serves a large number of Canadian companies who play a key role in Canada's Healthcare system.

The August Long Weekend is always a bookend
- The unofficial end of summer
- Back to school for Toronto kids
- The start of Christmas celebrations in the Philippines (no, really)
- Preparation for cold and flu season in medical circles
- The start of "peak season" in retail circles

This weekend in North America we celebrate Labour Day. Shortly after the Industrial Revolution, the workers realized that they needed to start advocating for their rights. In the late 1800's, countries around the world started recognizing workers with a Labour Day holiday.

In warehousing, we know that our "people on the floor" are the ones that make the products ship. Sales can sell, VPs can organize, but without our teams on the floor, nothing will happen. Cooperation through receiving, warehousing, picking, shipping, and maintenance is critical. All areas need to have a voice in our decisions. By making sure we recognize our staff with proper compensation and comfortable working conditions we keep morale (and retention rates!) high.

This weekend also marks the unofficial start of "peak season" in retail environments. Five & Counting Business Services wishes you a prosperous and smooth Q4. If you think there are areas in your operation that need improvement, please reach out. We're happy to help.

Change is hard. Poorly thought-through change could be a disaster.

My software updated this week and I'm livid. I opened Microsoft Outlook on Monday and was presented with a prompt: "we have some updates, do you want to install a new Outlook"? I clicked yes.
